Watercolour Stripes With Wild Hibiscus

by Erum Tasneem

Hello friends! How are you all doing? Erum here today and I have a fairly simple card to share with you using the Wild Hibiscus Stamp Set and Halftone Hello Stamp Set.

I created the background very roughly without worrying about the stripes being straight. The two shades of watercolours I used are Prussian Blue and Bluish Green. I love these colours together, they look so cool and I needed something soothing to look at since it's getting hotter here day by day!

I stamped all the flowers in the Wild Hibiscus Stamp Sets multiple times on a regular cardstock with Versafine Onyx Black ink. As there is only one leaf in this stamp set, I stamped it repeatedly to increase my leaf count.

I then fussy cut the flowers and leaves. These flowers are easy to fussy cut, I was done in no time.

I popped up all the elements on different levels using foam tape because I really like the dimensional effect it gives. Here is another view showing the dimension:

I then stamped “oh, hello” from the Halftone Hello Stamp Set. It looked like something was missing so I covered my flowers and leaves and added some black paint spatters. I went ahead and added a few (ok, A LOT of) sequins, they matched with my background perfectly.

What a beautiful stamp this Wild Hibiscus Stamp Set is! Man! It looks gorgeous even without colour, as it is. This is one of my favourite stamp sets.

I hope you will try something like this, ink up or watercolour your background, do a whole piece of solid inked background or just stripes like I did and add stark black and white stamped images to it. It creates a beautiful contrast.

That is all for today! Can't wait to pop back in here again! Have a super fab day.

What a GORGEOUS card, Erum! You’ve reminded me how much a beautifully colored background can set off a black and white focal piece. Love it!

For cardmakers like me who feel intimidated to colour (especially with all the amazing artists out there!), this card is a great example of how gorgeous the floral images can look in CAS black & white, laid on a BG that allows them to pop off the card base! A truly stunning card.

This is proof positive that we don’t need stamps to create a beautiful background! Wow, I loved the color combination with the striking “white” space, and the black splatters were a great finishing touch. I just love this.

The whole flower set just pops and stands out by doing it in black and white, and those stripes for the background? I am in awe! I want to try doing a card like this! Once in a card swap from a group I belong to, the card had to be black and white. This would have totally fit the bill. Thanks for the inspiration!
