Add the Wow Factor to Embossing Folders with Ink Sprays

by Michelle

Hello there, Michelle Short here with Terrific Tags with Michelle.

Today, I have a tag to share with you using ink sprays to enhance embossing folders and really give that wow factor! Although I am creating a tag today, this would look great as a panel on a card or as an accent to a scrapbooking/art journal page, too!

Adding the Wow Factor with Ink Sprays

I started off my tag by die-cutting watercolor paper using the Terrific Tags Die Set. I placed it inside the Fairy Tale Florals 3D Embossing Folder and ran it through my die-cutting machine.

To add color to the tag, I am using Metallic Shimmer Ink Sprays. Not only do these add color, but also a lot of shimmer!

I first misted the tag with water using the Fine Mister – Perfect Craftroom Companion. I then spritzed on Lavender Fields Metallic Shimmer Ink Spray at the top and bottom of the tag, followed by Ocean Waves Metallic Shimmer Ink Spray in the middle.

The Metallic Ink Sprays really do give that wow factor to both the tag and the embossing!

I heat set the inks with a heat tool, but they could be set aside to dry naturally. Once dry, I ran it back through my die-cutting machine with the Fairy Tale Florals 3D Embossing Folder to help flatten it slightly, as it had warped a little.

TOP TIP: You can add the spray first and then the embossing (this would help with warping), but I like that the ink spray pools a little around the edges of the embossing. It makes it a little more interesting to me!

I die cut another tag from Classic Crest Solar White Cardstock and adhered it to the back of the tag with Glue Tape. This helps to flatten the embossed tag (in terms of warping from the sprays and heat) but also gives me somewhere to write a personal message.

Adding a Sentiment

For the sentiment, I die cut the hello from the Versatile Greetings Die Set three times from black cardstock with Double-Sided Adhesive Sheet on the back. They were stacked up one on top of another and adhered to the tag.

For an accompanying sentiment, I stamped the “sending big hugs” from the Flower Vine Stamp Set onto black cardstock with Embossing Ink. I applied Pure White Crisp Embossing Powder and heat set. It was cut into a strip and added to the tag with Instant Dimension Foam Tape.

To finish off the tag, I die cut the hole reinforcer piece from the Labels & Tags 2 Die Set from black cardstock and adhered it to the tag. Since the hole in this is slightly smaller than the hole in the tag, I also adhered one to the back of the tag so that it looks finished off from the back.

I added black twine through the hole and tied in a bow at the front.

I hope this has inspired you to add the wow factor to paper crafting projects using ink sprays and embossing folders. You can watch the full process video below or on YouTube.

Thank you so much for stopping by today, I hope you have a wonderful day!
