You Should TRY These Creative and EASY Background Ideas! | Clean and Simple Floral Cards

by Hannelie Bester

Hey friends, Hannelie here today, and I am so exited to share inspiration to create two EASY backgrounds for clean and simple floral cards.

Creative Backgrounds for Clean and Simple Floral Cards

I love using my stamps and stencils in unexpected ways, and that's what I want to show you today! Join me as I experiment with the Abstract Mountain Slim Scene Building Stencil to design creative backgrounds that perfectly complement clean and simple floral cards.

Creative Backgrounds for Clean and Simple Floral Cards

The First Background Idea – A Vertical Layout:

  1. Begin by securing the card panel onto the Black Slim Grip Sticky Mat to ensure stability during the stenciling process.
  2. Position the Abstract Mountain Stencil vertically over the card panel.
  3. Start by applying Sapphire ink from the top and Puffy Heart ink from the bottom upwards, using the mini blending brush and blending them seamlessly where they meet.
  4. Reposition the stencil and repeat the process, this time alternating the order of the colors to achieve a balanced design.

The Second Background Idea – A Diagonal Layout:

  1. Begin by securing the card panel onto the Black Slim Grip Sticky Mat to ensure stability during the stenciling process.
  2. Place the Abstract Mountain Stencil diagonally over the card stock, exposing a corner.
  3. Apply a layer of Puffy Heart ink to the exposed area.
  4. Shift the stencil slightly and introduce Sapphire ink .
  5. Move the stencil around randomly, applying pink and blue ink in overlapping layers to achieve a layered color effect.

Creating the Focal Point

I decided to use one of my favorite Craft Your Life Project kits, the Floral Acanthus, to create the focal points for my clean and simple floral cards.

I repeated the colors from the same color families I used for the backgrounds, Glacier Caves and Rose Petal, to color the floral images for my cards. The coordinating coloring stencil set made the coloring process a breeze and the coordinating die, cuts out all the images in one go, which also save a lot of time!

Now that all the elements are prepared, it's time to assemble the cards!

  1. Place the flowers onto your card panels, but do not adhere them yet. Experiment with the placement until you find the perfect balance and symmetry for your design.
  2. Decide where you want to stamp the sentiment, remove the flowers, and stamp the desired sentiment using the Stamp Wheel and Obsidian Black Ink.
  3. Adhere the flowers using Instant Dimension Foam Tape. This will make your designs pop and create visual interest.
  4. Embellish the cards with Deep Sea Sapphire Gem Sparkles.
  5. Finally, adhere your completed card panel to card bases.

You may be wondering why did I use a separate card panel on top of a card base?

I find it more convenient to work on a flat surface instead of a folded card base… also with some techniques or inks, the backside of the panel may show ink bleeding through, and by using a separate card panel adhered to a card base, you get a neater end result.

Please note that you can achieve stunning results by stenciling directly onto a folded card base. The choice boils down to personal preference and the design.

Pro Tip: Think outside the box, and experiment with colors and designs. Not only is it fun to do, you will be surprised at the results!
