The 10th “The Daily Marker 30-Day Coloring Challenge” Blog Hop + Giveaway

by Tasnim

Hello!

Today we are celebrating the 10th “The Daily Marker 30-Day Coloring Challenge”!

Kathy Racoosin from the daily marker started this fun 30-day challenge back in March 2015 and now, three years later, we are already on the 10th challenge! What an amazing accomplishment!

You may have come here from Kathy's blog, if not you can always go back and check out the full list of the amazing people who are joining the hop today!

The goal of this challenge is to color something every day even if it is for a few minutes and share it with the crafting community. If you are new to this challenge, you can read more about it here.

I was very excited to create something for this blog hop; one, because Kathy is awesome and, two, because I rarely ever color and this was a great opportunity to do just that!

I made two cards using one stamp set for the images. I went for an older set, do you remember this one? It is the Floral Motifs Stamp Set. This set is filled with outline images so it was perfect for coloring:

DSC 0756I stamped everything in black, then colored in using Altenew Artist Markers. I used Coral Berry, Frosty Pink, Buttercream and Warm Sunshine for the flowers, and the lightest two grays for the leaves. The leaves look so flat! (Now you know why I don't color much!)

DSC 0786I added a sentiment from the set Scribbled Flowers and finished the card with a few yellow enamel dots.

For the second card, I did a bit of elaborate coloring (for me!). Before I show you the finished card, let me show you what I colored first:

DSC 0765After stamping the floral pattern, I kept the flowers mostly white and colored the background using Persian Blue marker. Boy, did that take a while to color! Originally, I had intended to cut a smaller panel and mount it on a card base, but I just couldn't bring myself to cut this up! I also didn't want to use it as is, so after some trial and error, I decided to cut a window out of a white card and mount the colored panel behind it.

Floral Motifs Persian blueIn the end, I got the look I wanted in addition to the comforting thought that my laboriously colored panel is still there in the back and you can almost see it if you peek through the window.

That's it from me! Feel free to leave a comment and let me know if you enjoy coloring, and if you do, what is your favorite coloring medium?

Your next stop on the hop is Concord & 9th.

I didn’t think anybody but Kathy colored a background like that! I am not to that level yet but the result is stunning! I can see why you didn’t want to hide it. I think that technique shows off beautifully when you leave the rest of the coloring simple, like you have done. Thank you.

I love that you are using this challenge to do something you rarely do, rather than just checking the box w/ a small comfortable piece. Your efforts on the second card were totally worth it- the background makes the flowers sing! I love to color, and tho zig markers have been my fave for a while, I’ve lately taken to colored pencils and I’m hooked!

Wow. Coloring the back ground and leaving the flowers almost all white is striking. And so not something I would of thought to do. But I really like it. Boydo they ever pop.

My fav would be using alcohol markers bec of the ease in blending, but I’m dev’ing a fascination for watercolor (wish I was better). Both cards are lovely, but your blue background card is spectacular!

Tasnim it is so good to have you here again. I love both your cards, practice with your greys and they will not look so flat. Always your colour choices are wonderful. I know what you mean about not wanting to cut the panel. When I have stamped and coloured I hate to reduce in size in any way. I love to colour. Copics I have used for years and are easy and quick to use, pencils I love but are harder and newer, painting I love too but also newer at.

Alison Heikkila June 4, 2018 - 8:03 AM
