The 10th “The Daily Marker 30-Day Coloring Challenge” Blog Hop + Giveaway

by Tasnim

Today we are celebrating the 10th “The Daily Marker 30-Day Coloring Challenge”!

Kathy Racoosin from the daily marker started this fun 30-day challenge back in March 2015 and now, three years later, we are already on the 10th challenge! What an amazing accomplishment!

You may have come here from Kathy's blog, if not you can always go back and check out the full list of the amazing people who are joining the hop today!

The goal of this challenge is to color something every day even if it is for a few minutes and share it with the crafting community. If you are new to this challenge, you can read more about it here.

I was very excited to create something for this blog hop; one, because Kathy is awesome and, two, because I rarely ever color and this was a great opportunity to do just that!

I made two cards using one stamp set for the images. I went for an older set, do you remember this one? It is the Floral Motifs Stamp Set. This set is filled with outline images so it was perfect for coloring:

DSC 0756I stamped everything in black, then colored in using Altenew Artist Markers. I used Coral Berry, Frosty Pink, Buttercream and Warm Sunshine for the flowers, and the lightest two grays for the leaves. The leaves look so flat! (Now you know why I don't color much!)

DSC 0786I added a sentiment from the set Scribbled Flowers and finished the card with a few yellow enamel dots.

For the second card, I did a bit of elaborate coloring (for me!). Before I show you the finished card, let me show you what I colored first:

DSC 0765After stamping the floral pattern, I kept the flowers mostly white and colored the background using Persian Blue marker. Boy, did that take a while to color! Originally, I had intended to cut a smaller panel and mount it on a card base, but I just couldn't bring myself to cut this up! I also didn't want to use it as is, so after some trial and error, I decided to cut a window out of a white card and mount the colored panel behind it.

Floral Motifs Persian blueIn the end, I got the look I wanted in addition to the comforting thought that my laboriously colored panel is still there in the back and you can almost see it if you peek through the window.

That's it from me! Feel free to leave a comment and let me know if you enjoy coloring, and if you do, what is your favorite coloring medium?

Your next stop on the hop is Concord & 9th.

Good to see the Artist Markers in use, I have the set but do not use them enough,so must try them again in the blog hop. Have the Persian motifs which are fairly close to the set you use, one of the few I am stil to collect, so will use what I have. Thanks for encouragement

Denise F. June 2, 2018 - 9:32 PM

I think your cards look great! I’m not a fancy colorer, so my coloring doesn’t always show dimension, but it is fun and my cards are handmade!!!

Charlsie June 2, 2018 - 9:32 PM

Both your cards are beautiful. Love how you framed the second card. Thank you

Cary Lombardo June 2, 2018 - 9:33 PM

I love your blue card. It’s so pretty you shouldn’t have covered any of it up! My favorite medium is simple colored pencils because they are the easiest to share with the kids who always want to join in.

Cheriese H June 2, 2018 - 9:38 PM

Gorgeous colours used, great inspiration!

Rebecca Y. June 2, 2018 - 9:49 PM

Katie Baird June 2, 2018 - 10:04 PM

Tasnim, I wouldn’t have wanted to cut up that panel either, after all that hard work! Lovely creations!

Annalisa June 2, 2018 - 10:11 PM

If I want to go quickly, my favorite coloring medium is watercolor. But if I want to do detailed, precise coloring, my favorite is colored pencils. And I don’t care what you say, I think your coloring is lovely. I have the floral motif stamp set, so I appreciate the ideas on how to layout the stamps. I’m definitely going to play with those during the coloring challenge. Thanks for sharing with us and being so generous while supporting Kathy and the challenge!

Lea Lawson June 2, 2018 - 10:11 PM

These are gorgeous!! I actually have some of your markers, but never use them. ? I still have a lot to learn about coloring!!

Stacy June 2, 2018 - 10:28 PM

I have never tried altenew markers, but I love what you did with them! These are very elegant cards!

Crystal Muirhead June 2, 2018 - 10:37 PM

I love the blue panel, I’m so glad you didn’t cut it up! My favorite coloring mediums are colored pencils and watercolor. I own many, many alcohol markers and need to practice more. Everything comes out flat; I haven’t mastered to art of blending yet!

Rufus June 2, 2018 - 10:44 PM

Yes, I do like to color. I’ve never gotten into the alcohol markers so would love to win the sets. Thanks for the chance and the inspiration!

Cathy Lillie June 2, 2018 - 10:56 PM

Lovely cards! I especially like how you colored the blue one. I do love to color but I don’t do it enough. I usually use colored pencils but have just started dabbling in markers. It’s definitely a challenge!

Carol Jones June 2, 2018 - 11:02 PM

I do love coloring yet somehow don’t seem to find time to color as often as I would like. My favorite medium to color with are my Copics, but I like colored pencils and watercolor too. I think you’re coloring is just fine, like me you just need to learn to relax and color more!

Kelly Santi June 2, 2018 - 11:07 PM

OH these are just dreamy – so soft and serene and the colors are gorgeous. My favorite coloring medium is using my prismacolor markers because they were a treasured gift from my kids (who saved their pennies!) I’ve even used crayons if that’s the only thing around, LOL! TFS!

LC Lamothe June 2, 2018 - 11:26 PM

Beautiful! I do enjoy coloring but don’t often take the time to do so. I don’t have many coloring tool options so it’s usually a toss up between colored pencils and watercoloring with ink.

Kristine Boydstun June 2, 2018 - 11:45 PM

Gorgeous! I love the coloring!

Carol Dogget June 2, 2018 - 11:47 PM

Stunning cards, I love to use my copic markers….but have been trying to get into the water coloring.

LindainDFW June 2, 2018 - 11:51 PM

Beautiful cards, love the colors!

Yasmine Omar June 2, 2018 - 11:53 PM

Vijaylaxmi June 3, 2018 - 12:19 AM

Beautiful cards both are ❤ loved the blue one ?Thanks for the chance ?

Maryjo L Monterosso June 3, 2018 - 12:31 AM

Beautiful cards. I love to color and currently alcohol inks are my go to medium but I do try out all kinds just to see if I can conquer the techniques. It took me awhile to become comfortable with the alcohol but I get better with practive.

Karen S. June 3, 2018 - 1:02 AM

Lovely cards! Thanks for sharing.

Kristina Hein June 3, 2018 - 1:03 AM

I do love to color but it’s really hard to pick just one medium! I’m currently showing my Zig Clean Color markers some love.

Sharla Laursen June 3, 2018 - 1:07 AM

Pretty flowers and cards! markers are my medium of choice and I love coloring!

Kris Reeves June 3, 2018 - 1:08 AM

Just love the soft lovely colors on the first card!

Becky H. June 3, 2018 - 1:09 AM

Beautiful cards and fun Hop!

Rosa June 3, 2018 - 1:10 AM

I find these flowers very original and specially the way you created the second card, with that wide frame. I will use your idea!

Kristy P June 3, 2018 - 1:18 AM

I love to color, but my favorite medium seems to change/rotate. Like I hadn’t used my watercolor pencils in months, and then it just hit me that I really want to color with them…. so chances are the next few things I color will be with them. I just finished several items with copics. I guess it is good that what I have an urge to use rotates, it helps me justify all of the coloring stuff I own!

Mónica M June 3, 2018 - 1:38 AM

I love the floral motifs. They are very Persian inspired. Absolutely lovely. While I love using Copic Markers, I’m completely a watercolor person. I love the soft look of watercolors.

zubmomi June 3, 2018 - 1:39 AM

Gorgeous cards…both of them! Yes I do enjoy coloring and my favorite medium is alcohol markers. I haven’t tried Altenew markers but love how they turned out on your cards :)

M Strach June 3, 2018 - 2:28 AM

Wonderful cards!

Margery C June 3, 2018 - 2:41 AM

I really enjoy watercoloring right now.
