The 10th “The Daily Marker 30-Day Coloring Challenge” Blog Hop + Giveaway

by Tasnim

Hello!

Today we are celebrating the 10th “The Daily Marker 30-Day Coloring Challenge”!

Kathy Racoosin from the daily marker started this fun 30-day challenge back in March 2015 and now, three years later, we are already on the 10th challenge! What an amazing accomplishment!

You may have come here from Kathy's blog, if not you can always go back and check out the full list of the amazing people who are joining the hop today!

The goal of this challenge is to color something every day even if it is for a few minutes and share it with the crafting community. If you are new to this challenge, you can read more about it here.

I was very excited to create something for this blog hop; one, because Kathy is awesome and, two, because I rarely ever color and this was a great opportunity to do just that!

I made two cards using one stamp set for the images. I went for an older set, do you remember this one? It is the Floral Motifs Stamp Set. This set is filled with outline images so it was perfect for coloring:

DSC 0756I stamped everything in black, then colored in using Altenew Artist Markers. I used Coral Berry, Frosty Pink, Buttercream and Warm Sunshine for the flowers, and the lightest two grays for the leaves. The leaves look so flat! (Now you know why I don't color much!)

DSC 0786I added a sentiment from the set Scribbled Flowers and finished the card with a few yellow enamel dots.

For the second card, I did a bit of elaborate coloring (for me!). Before I show you the finished card, let me show you what I colored first:

DSC 0765After stamping the floral pattern, I kept the flowers mostly white and colored the background using Persian Blue marker. Boy, did that take a while to color! Originally, I had intended to cut a smaller panel and mount it on a card base, but I just couldn't bring myself to cut this up! I also didn't want to use it as is, so after some trial and error, I decided to cut a window out of a white card and mount the colored panel behind it.

Floral Motifs Persian blueIn the end, I got the look I wanted in addition to the comforting thought that my laboriously colored panel is still there in the back and you can almost see it if you peek through the window.

DSC 0780

That's it from me! Feel free to leave a comment and let me know if you enjoy coloring, and if you do, what is your favorite coloring medium?

Your next stop on the hop is Concord & 9th.

Beautiful cards! I love coloring, especially with Copics. I would say watercolors are my favorite but I’m not very good with them.

A few years back my life turned to chaos. After a 30-year marriage I now found myself single. The stress of the divorce and the problems with my father and family I ended up getting lupus along with the fibromyalgia that I already had osteoarthritis just a whole slew of medical problems which included severe depression and PTSD. The only relief I found was through coloring it helped my depression and helps me COPE in all the situations I found myself in. You could say it saved my sanity I’m extremely grateful. I really enjoy the flower motif

These cards are so beautiful and I especially like the blue version! I am trying to learn how to use alcohol markers but am still a beginner, but I have to start somewhere, right?

You have the most beautiful floral images. I own a number of Copics but don’t feel skilled at using those yet and just purchased some Prismacolor Colored pencils, but what I find I’m enjoying the most right now is some very basic watercoloring.

mastering the art of coloring and shading is something I truly want to accomplish! I’m always looking to create a work of art masterpiece. That way I can keep my example and create similar ones from that.

I love the window effect on the blue and white card. It is stunning. I love to color with watercolor pencils, and then use the water pen to give my cards dimension. I get a lot of inspiration from this blog. Thank you.

For not coloring frequently, you did a great job! I love the one you “framed”! Apparently, I don’t pay enough attention to Altenew products, as I hadn’t realized you had Artist Markers. How fun!

These are great. I actually REALLY like the look of the first one. I think you are too hard on yourself. These are beautiful and I love them both. Oh..and I love to color…and with just about anything. Love my pencils, and my markers, and watercolors. I can’t say as I have a favorite medium. I’ll gleefully admit that I even love my Crayola crayons….especially with a good old fashioned coloring book (with the same type paper I grew up with).

Reply
Teresa Doyle June 2, 2018 - 8:01 PM

Tasnim, I think you did a wonderful job colouring both of your cards, they are great.
I love to colour but sadly I have no idea about mixing colours or colour theory in general. (To be honest, I suck at it but I love to colour just the same.)
I like many mediums, w/c, Zigs & Copics. Copic’s are my favourite at the moment. I am actually working on a ‘collage’ of flowers from the Adore You set right now, as I am honing my skills for both masking and alcohol markers. Heaven knows I need all the help I can get. haha

Reply
Fran Smith June 2, 2018 - 8:06 PM

Wow! Absolutely love these cards and the simply beautiful colors that you used.

Reply
Michele Lourenco June 2, 2018 - 8:08 PM

I have to say my preferred is using Copic markers. I feel they are very forgiving, especially because I don’t have much skills!
