The 10th “The Daily Marker 30-Day Coloring Challenge” Blog Hop + Giveaway

by Tasnim

Hello!

Today we are celebrating the 10th “The Daily Marker 30-Day Coloring Challenge”!

Kathy Racoosin from the daily marker started this fun 30-day challenge back in March 2015 and now, three years later, we are already on the 10th challenge! What an amazing accomplishment!

You may have come here from Kathy's blog, if not you can always go back and check out the full list of the amazing people who are joining the hop today!

The goal of this challenge is to color something every day even if it is for a few minutes and share it with the crafting community. If you are new to this challenge, you can read more about it here.

I was very excited to create something for this blog hop; one, because Kathy is awesome and, two, because I rarely ever color and this was a great opportunity to do just that!

I made two cards using one stamp set for the images. I went for an older set, do you remember this one? It is the Floral Motifs Stamp Set. This set is filled with outline images so it was perfect for coloring:

DSC 0756I stamped everything in black, then colored in using Altenew Artist Markers. I used Coral Berry, Frosty Pink, Buttercream and Warm Sunshine for the flowers, and the lightest two grays for the leaves. The leaves look so flat! (Now you know why I don't color much!)

DSC 0786I added a sentiment from the set Scribbled Flowers and finished the card with a few yellow enamel dots.

For the second card, I did a bit of elaborate coloring (for me!). Before I show you the finished card, let me show you what I colored first:

DSC 0765After stamping the floral pattern, I kept the flowers mostly white and colored the background using Persian Blue marker. Boy, did that take a while to color! Originally, I had intended to cut a smaller panel and mount it on a card base, but I just couldn't bring myself to cut this up! I also didn't want to use it as is, so after some trial and error, I decided to cut a window out of a white card and mount the colored panel behind it.

Floral Motifs Persian blueIn the end, I got the look I wanted in addition to the comforting thought that my laboriously colored panel is still there in the back and you can almost see it if you peek through the window.

That's it from me! Feel free to leave a comment and let me know if you enjoy coloring, and if you do, what is your favorite coloring medium?

Your next stop on the hop is Concord & 9th.

That cobalt blue background is so beautiful. I really like how you gave depth to each white flower with the blue into the middle of each petal. Looks so good! The frame was the perfect way to finish your lovely coloring!

Gorgeous, Tasnim! I really do love that 2nd card. That is one thing I love about Altenew – you guys have designed stamp sets that can be stamped in multiple layers, or that can be colored. Such versatile designs!

Reply

I think that your coloring is very pretty!
We need to listen to Kathy and remember that we should just color and not worry about all of the rules. We can’t all be pros at it and the beauty is in trying :-)
My favorite coloring medium is alcohol markers because I can shade more easily than with colored pencils.
Thanks for your generosity!

I think the sending hugs is lovely. You should not criticize your own work..let us ( privately ?) …you did a great job on both cards

Thank you so much for being part of Kathy’s wonderful hop and challenge! Your cards are beautiful, and it’s so nice to see use of different techniques on one stamp set. I do enjoy colouring, although I still have a LOT to learn. My current favourite medium are ZIGs, but I’m also practising my Copic colouring every now and again :-)

Reply
Marie Maksud June 2, 2018 - 12:17 PM

I have started to colour with copics and also with distress or watercolour but my technic is very basic. But I love this moment of tranquility and peace that gives you

Hi Tasnim,
Thank you for sharing your two cards especially considering you wished the leaves didn’t look so flat in the first one. It is an encouragement to those of us who are not perfect at coloring either. I absolutely loved the frame you put around your second (blue background) card. It was perfect!

I love the blue card! It’s so simple and pretty. I don’t have many markers so I usually use watercolors or pencils, but I#m really tempted to stock up markers to get better with that.

Gorgeous coloring here! I do love to color and I like to use lots of mediums–copic markers, colored pencils, watercolor pencils and water color markers–it seems I just like to play and switch it up. Of course I always have my little rag from Kathy, my white gel pen, my sparkle glitter pen and my fine Sharpie nearby, just as Kathy would reccomend!
