Stamp Focus: Painted Jellyfish

by Svitlana Shayevich

Hi there! Svitlana is here today. Hope you're having a wonderful start of the week. Today I will be sharing three cards using a new set – Painted Jellyfish Stamp Set.

4x6 Painted Jellyfish

Can we have a moment and talk about this stamp set? I should admit that sea life images are my weakness. I'm instantly sold when it comes to stamps of this theme. But these jellyfishes … they're so perfectly realistic and cool. Oh boy, I cannot believe this set is real :)

The moment I saw this set I knew I'll do it in black and gold. I recently got addicted to black and gold card designs and this set I just had to do this was as well.

I stamped the bigger jellyfish onto a white panel, stamping the bottom layer using Jet Black ink and the middle and top layers I embossed in gold, using two different gold powders of different shades.  The part of the sentiment was stamped in black below.

Then I adhered the panel onto another one, made out of Gold Mirror Cardstock, which in turn was adhered onto a black card base. I added the second part of the sentiment white embossed on a stripe of black cardstock and several sequins to finish off my card.

I really like combination of gold and black and double embossing I made for the jellyfish. In fact – you'll see layered embossing in the following two cards as well.

For second card I went for more so to speak natural design – jellyfishes in their undersea environment.

They were white embossed onto a vellum and then die-cut using matching die.  Here I also used white embossing powders of different colors (I have several and not all of them true white). Which is maybe hard to see on the photo. Although using only one powder would work as well, it adds some relief anyways.

Onto a white panel I created background by covering it with several shades of Distress inks. Then I splattered it with water. Distress inks reacted with water and moved, I then blotted them off with paper towel to dry. When my panel was completely dry I white embossed the sentiment and foam mounted it onto a white card base.

Finally I adhered the vellum jellyfishes onto the panel and added several clear droplets of different sizes.

For the third card I also went for undersea scene, but this time I wanted to recreate a more realistic look of these creatures, which are transparent. I did this by layering clear embossing and inking the background between layers.

First I slightly inked a white panel with Distress ink and clear embossed the outline images of jellyfishes. Then I inked over with Distress inks again. I clear embossed the bottom layer of the creatures and again inked over with Distress inks. I skipped the middle layer and clear embossed the top one. And again I covered the whole panel with Distress inks.

Then I splattered water, let the inks move and blotted them off to dry. I also white embossed the sentiment and foam mounted the panel onto a white card base. And again clear droplet were my embellishments of choice.

I really like how the these turned out, using a different color for each layer. I think it replicates to some level the look they have in real life.

Hope you like my cards and got ideas of how you can use this amazing stamp set.

I love your cards!!! It is amazing how you have treated the jellyfish. I never thought of them in gold/black but they are fantastic – and the white embossing is terrific. Thank you!
