Stamp Focus: Book Club

by May Sukyong Park

Hello, Altenew friends, it's Norine back with you today with some projects to share! I'm showcasing the Book Club Stamp and Die Set and I have 3 cards and some book labels to show you. Let's go!

Altenew Mar20191 1I love books and reading! I also love sharing my favorite books with others, but I'm less fussed about it when they don't come back home. When I saw the Book Club Stamp Set, I knew it was one I HAD to have!

This stamp and die set is super versatile, with a beautiful floral image surrounding a circle in which you can stamp sentiments to make it an honest-to-goodness bookplate, or a journal frontispiece (def: an illustrated leaf preceding the title page of a book), or even a card with sentiments from other stamp sets.

Altenew Mar20191 2I began by making a couple of gift sets of bookplates. First, I stamped on Avery Internet TrueBlock Shipping Labels; they are a very nice paperweight that is beautifully opaque. I made 4 of each for my daughter-in-law and her sister, both of them love books as much as I do!

Altenew Mar20191 5The flower bouquets on these label stickers are colored with the Artist Markers (alcohol-based) after being stamped with alcohol friendly ink and then cut out with the coordinating die.

Altenew Mar20191 6I made a set for myself while trying to decide which color combos I liked best. Ultimately, the colors I chose were Frosty Pink and Forest Glades. Where I went lighter on the edges, I mixed those colors with the Colorless Blender, and where the color is darker, I simply added a second layer of the colored pen.

Altenew mar20191 7I'm so pleased with this pretty and classy way to lend a friend a book I love!

Altenew BookClub Mar1 5Besides the bookplates, I wanted to use this stamp on a card as well. First, I stamped on one watercolor panel with clear embossing ink and heat embossed with Copper Embossing Powder, and on the other with black ink and heat embossed with clear embossing powder. The “Thinking of You” sentiment is from the Dainty Swiss Dots Stamp Set, and the “Hello” is from the Build-A-Flower: Peruvian Lily set.

Altenew BookClub Mar1 6For these cards, I used the Watercolor Brush Markers and a watercolor brush. On the copper-embossed card, I chose the Paper Bag, Moss and Dusk colored brush markers and blended them all a little to mix into the background. Of course, there is a little bit of ink splattering and some enamel dots to finish!

Altenew BookClub Mar1 9I kind of love the color combination on this card a lot! Here, I used a mix of Dusk, Persian Blue and Moss and created blends from these colors to achieve that soft, muddy colored background. That is one of my favorite things about these watercolor brush markers – the blends you can create from the basic colors provided.

Altenew BookClub Mar1 1Finally, I stamped, painted, and die cut another watercolor paper/painted image. This time, I used the Ruby Red, Rubellite, Limeade, Paper Bag, and Emerald watercolor brush markers and painted on the colors, taking little care with where the colors fell. After it was dry, paint-speckled and dried again, I die cut the image from the watercolor paper. And then again from a piece of black fun foam.

Altenew BookClub0Mar1 4Finally, I mounted it on a patterned paper-covered card front, with a strip of Essential Black & White 6×6 Paper Pack to complement. The sentiment on this card is from the Sketchy Floral Stamp Set. Thank you so much for stopping by and have a wonderful day!

Gorgeous projects. The marker colors look amazing on the bookplates. I can’t wait to see how the other designers use the watercolor markers. Thanks for the inspiration!
