Hi there, everyone! Erum here with a new project and video for the Creative Coloring with Erum video series. Today's project features the Craft Your Life Project Kit: Botanical Line Art, where I will share soft color ink blending to create a sympathy card. To receive your Craft Your Life Project Kit monthly, please signup for the monthly subscription plan.
- On a panel of 4 1/4″ x 5 1/2″ Classic Crest Solar White Cardstock, stamp images from the Craft Your Life Project Kit: Botanical Line Art in Orange Sorbet Crisp Dye Ink.
- Place the coordinating stencil 2 and apply Peach Perfect Crisp Dye Ink to the upper side of the petals and Mountain Mist Crisp Dye Ink to the backside of the petals.
- Apply Mountain Mist to the tip and Peach Perfect Crisp Dye Inks to the base of the top left petal on Stencil 2. Add shading of Mountain Mist Crisp Dye Ink to a couple of other peachy areas as well but don't overdo it.
- Place stencil 1 over the second flower and apply Peach Perfect Crisp Dye Ink to the base of the petals, diffusing it outwards. Apply Mountain Mist Crisp Dye Ink from the tips of the petals, diffusing it inwards. Do not over-blend into each other.
Tip: when using complementary colors for ink blending, make sure not to overwork the inks into each other; the movement should be as little as possible so the original color intensity of each color remains intact as much as possible.
- Stamp the two flowers on Masking Paper and fussy cut the masks. Adhere the masks over the flowers.
- Position Stencil 3 where you want to add leaves; use Sand Dunes Crisp Dye Ink to add depth, then lightly add Mocha Crisp Dye Ink to the base of the leaves.
- Next, position the leaf stamp over the stenciled leaves. This doesn't have to be perfect, but close enough. Stamp with Sand Dunes Crisp Dye Ink.
- Use Butternet Dual Tip Pen from the Zanzibar Pen Set and add detail to the leaves (optional).
- Use a Blending Tool of your choice to add light inking of Sand Dunes Crisp Dye Ink, starting from the bottom left corner, following an “L-shape” and diffusing it as you move upwards. I also used a Detailed Blending Brush to add inking in between the flowers so I didn't have to ink over the flowers.
- Add fine black splatters with a Jet Black Ink Spray using a paintbrush.
- Stamp the image in Obsidian Pigment Ink.
Bonus: To step up a stenciled project, especially one without an outline. Use a metallic pen and add an outline to the image, following along the colored area. You do not have to perfectly draw the outline; the metallic pen shining against the ink is what gives it an exquisite look. This looks amazing on dark stenciled images and elegant on lighter ones.
