Sketchy Rose with Inktense Pencils

by Marika

Hello, It's Marika here today. Hopefully you all are doing well. A tutorial for Sketchy Rose was asked for a while ago, I didn't watercolour it this time but the same shading applies to watercoloring as well. My project for today is a little bit bigger than usual card, it measures (14.5 x 14.5cm). If someone is wondering, it took only two hours to colour this from start to finish. So here is my project for today:

Stamps used: Sketchy Rose.

Stamps used: Sketchy Rose.

I filmed while I coloured, so if you wish to see me colour this rose watch it here or in HD in Youtube. The Inktense pencil used is Oak (1730).

ARVE Error: need id and provider

I hope you enjoyed and got some inspiration to colour this beautiful rose. Thank you for visiting and see you soon!

Marika

It is beautiful, Marika. Thank you for sharing the actual time of coloring with us. I guess we never really know and then I sometimes can’t get it even close to a video. Now I know I;m not patient enough. What paper did you stamp it on?

2 hours!! And you call that ‘only’!?!? But, I guess when the outcome is so superbly fantastic, 2 hours may mean nothing in the end!

Ashwini, I actually coloured that frame for about 45min, so the rose itself took less than two hours. :) Thank you for your kind words.

This was so helpful in how to color this rose- especially the very center part which can be confusing! Thanks for taking the time to show how you did it! Lovely

I am glad that the video was helpful for you. Yes, flowers with a lot of pedals can be very confusing at times. But this rose stamp is so life-like so it is worth of all the effort at the end. Thank you for your kind words!

So very envious of your artistic vision – – way out of my comfort zone – – and so fabulously done! Love the monochromatic look.

Superb work of art … it’s amazing how the lack of colour does nothing to detract from the gorgeous way this rose is “coloured”. In fact, it shows even more detail. Beautiful, Marika!

Marika June 10, 2015 - 3:09 AM

I agree totally! It was facinating to see how the rose came to coloured only adding shading to the image. Thank you, Susi!

Your drawing is absolutely stunning Marika! That would have taken me twenty hours, not two! I find drawing and painting quite therapeutic, even if it does take ages. What kind of paper did you use?

Reply
Marika June 10, 2015 - 3:15 AM

I agree! Colouring is so therapeutic. I used Neenah Desert Storm 80lb card stock. Thank you for your kind words, Angela!
