Red Drama with Hot Foiled Jolly Ornaments

by Svitlana Shayevich

Hi friends!
Svitlana is here. Today I want to share a holiday card featuring the Jolly Ornaments Complete Bundle.

I got the inspiration for this card from photos of scattered red and gold ornaments, which you can often see as product pictures in online stores. I decided to add some drama to the card to make the otherwise simple design more interesting and eye-catching.

Jolly Ornaments

I made several ornaments by hot foiling the Jolly Ornaments Hot Foil Plates onto a red cardstock using the Satin Enchanted Gold Hot Foil.

After that, the ornaments were die-cut using the Jolly Ornaments Die Set.

I put the ornaments aside moving on to creating the card base. I made the card base out of red cardstock and to add more drama to it I ink blended the Grapevine Fresh Dye Ink around the card base edges.  I left the card middle not inked to achieve some kind of glow around the center ornament.

For additional interest and some texture I misted the ink blending using an aerosol-like sprayer (it dispenses tiny-tiny water droplets).

Next, I moved on to building the ornament background on the card base. First, I foam-mounted an ornament in the center using black adhesive foam squares.

After that, I popped up ornaments around the card base edges using thin black adhesive foam squares. I was trimming the ornament parts hanging outside of the card base edges. And I used the cut-out parts for the background as well, by placing them in the areas in between. So to build this card I only needed to hot foil 4 ornaments.

To accentuate the card I added several Satin Gold Sequins, which finished off the card.

You may notice that foiling on some ornaments is not perfect. For another card design, I would fix it by simply double-foiling. But in this case, I thought that these imperfections add some realism, as real ornaments usually don't have perfect gold leafing.

Have a wonderful day!
