Hi Debby here today. This year I really discovered my love of coloured pencils, in particular colouring on kraft. Pencils have to be up there with watercolours as one of my favourite colouring mediums now.
I do feel slightly conflicted at the moment, there is definitely a change in the air and I'm noticing the first signs of autumn but it seems especially early this year and I'm not quiet ready to give up on summer yet and so I pulled out the Summer Swirls set for this card.
SUMMER SWIRLS
This card is really simple to put together – I do love a clean design. I stamped three of the delicious images from the Summer Swirls set in clear embossing ink on kraft card. This gives a tone on tone look which is easy to see to colour but equally the lines fade away as your colour with the pencils.
ADDING DETAILS
After I'd finished colouring I added a few details with glitter pens and a white gel pen. I do think shimmer and shine add to the mouthwatering look of these ice creams. Then I wrapped twine around the panel and foam mounted it on white card base.
The Summer Swirls set has a variety of appropriate sentiments but I wanted to find a coordinating sentiment that I could cut in to a skinny strip to add over the middle ice cream. I dug through my stamp sets and found the perfect sentiment in the Simple Fruits set. I stamped the sentiment in clear embossing ink on hot pink card and white heat embossed before trimming down and foam mounted over that middle ice cream. As a final accent I added a trio of shiny coloured droplets.
I love how the coloured pencils really pop off the kraft card. Thanks for joining me today and I'll see you next time.

Yummy card!!
Wow Debby, this is amazing!
Love it! I love working with kraft paper and never thought of using pencils. What a beautiful look!
Is there a particular brand you prefer? Does one brand tend to work better than another in kraft?
I have been in love with my watercolor pencils lately and you just reminded me to stretch out beyond what I know, and to learn more.
keep up the inspirational and beautiful coloring.
Wow. Great detail and I love the kraft card stock. Fun card, Debby!
Delicious!! Beautiful coloring on this lovely card Debby :-)
I love this card! Now I want ice cream…
Sooo Pretty!! I love this look!!
What a beautiful job on this Debby. I love how the pencil lines show the “movement” of the swirls and so pretty too. (NOW, I want an ice cream! Thanks.)
Gorgeous card if only I could color like this!
I just love this card!! BEAUTIFUL!
Makes me want to have a bite! I agree with Teresa – the detail in the texture from the colouring is great!
so pretty :)
Thanks for sharing this yummy card! Love your coloring!
Your pencils look lovely on the kraft paper Debby. Such a gentle and grown up style of colouring x

Gorgeous card, with really beautiful colouring.

Oh that is so so sweet!
Debby, you really are quite remarkable with your artistry. I remember watching a YouTube video featuring Jennifer Mcguire and Kristina Werner (and one more person, but I can’t remember who it was – sorry). Your name was brought up and Jennifer made the remark, “Who WOULDN’T want a Debby Hughes card!”. I agree with her. :) I love how you handled the colors and details in this card. Deliciously wonderful.
YUM! Super sweet card! Love it!
They look delicious!
Oh my goodness !!! This card is one of those that needs to be framed and hang up on a wall, it’s too beautiful to get lost in a drawer… Debbie, you did an AWESOME job !!! Love from France, Marjorie
Debbie, this is a delightful card. Your idea of the embossing ink and then pencils on kraft paper invites me to give this technique a try. TFS.
Absolutely breathtaking! The cones look so delicious and the chocolate pop looks scrumptious! I can taste chocolate and cream with a little bit of caramel maybe!?! Yummy! TFS!
absolutely gorgeous!
LOVE your card. The ice creams seem so real that I almost can taste them.
Too bad there’s no video of how you make this so beautifully colored, I hope a next time.
Mouth watering! You make them look so realistic. Awesome coloring job.
So beautiful! You never cease to amaze me!
