Hello friends! Erum here today with a simple Spring card using Painted Butterflies and Halftone Hello stamp sets.
I hope you guys follow Monday's FB Live hosted by our awesome Lydia. Recently she used this older stamp set Painted Butterflies (you can watch the video HERE). She inspired so many of us to use this set. I realized I had never inked this stamp set and told her I would do some pencil colouring.
Lets get on with the details. I stamped the outline “hello” from Halftone Hello stamp set in Permanent Black Ink first. I then stamped the halftone hello first in Lagoon crisp ink and then in black but a little offset this time. The effect looks really cool.
I also added a cast shadow with a grey colour pencil to show some depth on my one layer card panel. Can't really tell in photos if it made much difference but in person this technique always makes the images pop off the card.
After I was done with the hello, I stamped three butterflies around it. There are quite a few butterflies in this set, different sizes and shapes providing us with quite a few possibilities. I wanted to use this set differently and show you that you can change the look of the image with pencils.
I started with the yellow colour around the black pattern and extended it enough to mix it with teal. Then I came in from the edge with a vibrant blue, giving the wings some folds. To mix the blue with teal I used a blending pencil and then went back in to add more yellow and blend more with teal.
The colouring on the butterflies came out good but my card looked quite plain so I decided to add a bit of grass and flowers. I used kid's watercolour palette to make different green shades and then started painting my grass. I also added some yellow flowers to my grass.
The grass looks nice and goes with the butterflies but then I decided we needed clouds! I used Morning Frost crisp ink to make my clouds. I like how the butterflies stand out against the gray clouds.
Lastly, I added a few yellow sequins for the bling, popped the card front on to a plain white base and I was done.
Before I leave, I have the same card with pink/orange Painted Butterflies and blue clouds but without the cast shadow.
I will keep the description short. The clouds were created using Ocean Waves Crisp Ink and the halftone hello was filled in with Coral Berry Crisp Ink.
Hope you liked my cards. See you guys soon with something bright and colourful!
hugs and love,
Erum

That is exactly what I noticed that no one has used pencils with these butterflies. Don’t forget to tag Altenew when you try and share.
What kind of coloring pencils do you use?
These are Prismacolors Kesha.
Love the card. Makes you feel like you are right in the scene. Love the colors . Think I will check into those pencils but don’t think I can match your talent for coloring.
Thank you Donna! I don’t think it will be that difficult if you follow my lines when you colour this image with pencils for the first time. I hope you do try :)
I don’t have any good colored pencils. What type did you use? I saw a set of 72 prismacolor on sale. Do you like those?
Great cards by the way. I got all excited about making a card like yours that I just up forgot to say, thanks for the inspiration. I do clouds like yours too. It looks awesome.

These are so beautiful. I just received an order today, including some stamps I chose, after winning a gift certificate in the 3 year blog hop! I am so thrilled with the stamps and two of the sets will lend themselves perfectly to coloring with pencils. Thanks again to Altenew and to all the design team artists, such as Erum, who inspire us with their talent!
