These two new products go together so well, and I've created a video tutorial featuring the new release to share some inspiration for both! Check it out here:
My first example uses the Autumn Festival Watercolor Brush Markers to create a loosely watercolored, moody image with the Paeonia Japonica set.
I started by applying the Cotton Candy watercolor directly from the brush marker to the base of the petal and the color Mango Smoothie to the tip of the same petal. Then, I used a damp, round paintbrush to blend the two colors together in the middle. I repeated this process until each petal is colored in and has a dual tone color to it. This provides so much interest to the image and is an easy look to achieve!
For my second example, I created a similar look but this time with the basic Watercolor Essential 12 Pan Set from Altenew. These pan watercolors have a much more pastel color payoff and create beautiful dreamy colors.
The main difference between achieving this look with the palette vs the brush markers is that I completely saturate the petals with my first color (in this case a pinkish-red color), let the petals dry, and then go back in to the base with my second color (in this case a very vibrant yellow). I go back and forth with adding more of each color until I get the payoff that I'm looking for.
Then, I continue that same multi-color watercoloring into the leaves which helps carry the loose watercolor appearance through.
Finally, I finish both cards off with a light splatter of a dark gray watercolor. For my Watercolor Brush Marker card, I used the new color Winter Fog. I love the way watercolor splatter looks on watercolored cards. I think it completes the look of an art piece rather than just having a plain white background, but this is totally up to your own style!
For the sentiment, I combine a sentiment stamp included in the Paint-A-Flower set and the Tall Alpha Letter dies in glitter card stock to complete the look.
I hope that you've enjoyed seeing how I created these two projects using the new Paint-A-Flower Paeonia Japonica and the new Watercolor Brush Marker set. If you haven't already, please be sure to watch the video to get extra tips and hints for your watercoloring! What a beautiful stamp! I loved the samples the artists made. Thanks for the great inspirations.
I’m excited to get the paint a flower for this month. I got a tree peony last year and it bloomed this year. I’d like to paint it the same beautiful yellow color.
This is a beautiful flower, one that I will have to look up. I love the way it looks on the card, especially looking to the right… perfect for sentiment placement. I like the names of the watercolors, they describe them so well… and the colors are such a large range of colors in such few markers. Very very pretty.
