Hi, Altenew fans! It’s May here from Mayholic Design. Today I have a one-layer watercolor card to share with you all featuring the beautiful Wallpaper Art Stamp Set.
Actually, this is the card that I created for the Altenew Create & Take at Simon Says Create 2019 a couple of weeks ago.
Tasnim and I led the Altenew Create & Take for two days. We met lots of amazing people and had so much fun creating cards together.
By the way, my husband helped me with cutting watercolor papers and stamping the images for 200 people so they can just enjoy watercoloring at the table.
I started by stamping the large floral image from the Wallpaper Art Stamp Set with Permanent Black Ink on a A2 sized cold pressed watercolor paper.
Then I stamped the leaves from the Wallpaper Art Stamp Set after masking off the floral image with a sticky note.
Next, I stamped the sentiment from the Crafty Life Stamp Set with Permanent Black Ink above the floral stamped image.
Don't you just love the sentiment “A day of crafting is just what the doctor ordered.”? Jennifer McGuire suggested this sentiment when I was designing the Crafty Life Stamp Set.
Then I colored the images with the Watercolor Brush Markers – Tropical Fiesta Set and using a fine watercolor brush. FYI, I stamped each image twice to make sure I get a nice crisp impression using Mini MISTI.
FYI, here is the list of the colors I used for watercoloring:
- Flower: Purple Wine, Crimson, Sunkissed, Fresh Lemon
- Leaves: Sweet Leaf, Lime, Fresh Lemon
- Center: Paper Bag, Fresh Lemon
For the first few petals, I applied the color straight from the watercolor brush markers toward the bottom of each petal and blend in the color with a watercolor brush.
But it was hard to control the amount of ink that came out from the marker, so I decided to scribble my watercolor brush marker on the watercolor palette first and pick up the color with my watercolor brush.
Once I picked up some color from my watercolor palette with my watercolor brush, I applied the color toward the bottom of each petal and the areas where two petals meet together to indicate the shading areas.
Then I took my watercolor brush and pulled the color out from the darker stroke.
To create a gradient look of the color on your petals, it’s important to remove the ink from your watercolor brush and wipe off the excess ink using a paper towel in between before you pull out the color. You can go over the image to diffuse the color or to add more color.
After my coloring was done, I mounted my watercolor panel on the A2 sized top folding card base using double-sided tape. Please note that I intentionally left some white areas to indicate the highlights on the petals.
To add interest to my background, I splattered the background with inks from my Altenew Watercolor Brush Markers after covering my images with post-it notes to protect them from the splatters.
You can also add dots using a colored pen to create a look of controlled splatters if you are not good at creating splatters. To enhance the color on the leaves, I colored them with Altenew Artist Marker – Jet Black. I finished off my card by adding some tiny dots on the center of my flower using a white gel pen.
That's all for today. Hope you love what I created. Happy crafting!
