May Inspiration Challenge: From Places Abroad- Australia

by Lydia Evans

Hi there Altenew friends! Lydia here with you today and I'm so glad you stopped by as this month I am hosting the Inspiration Challenge. Our destination this month is Australia.

Altenew_Inspiration Challenge_MayI took this photo back in 2012 when my husband. our little boy and I went for a trip to Australia to visit family and friends. The picture is part of a tiled mosaic at the top of Mount Coot-tha in Brisbane. We found this at the summit after an adventurous walk with a 14 month old and push-chair.

It is such a beautiful piece of art and there is lots in it to be inspired by. I took the yellow, blue and browns for my inspiration.

DSC07628To start I stamped the half-closed flower from Magnolias For Her three times onto some watercolour card using a yellow Distress Ink. I then coloured the flowers using the same coloured ink and clean water to get this no-line watercolour effect. Once they were dry I used some coloured pencils to add in a little extra shadow and detail.

I cut them out using the coordinating Magnolias For Her Die Set. As I was going to be adding this flowers onto a Navy card base I didn't want them to have white edges so I took a navy marker and coloured the white border around the flower.

DSC07632For the branch I used the Vintage Flowers Die Set and cut the branch die from the set from some Woodgrain Bark card and added this to my card base before adding on the yellow flowers.

To finish I stamped a sentiment from Sentiments & Quotes and heat embossed it in white embossing powder.

Beautiful and very striking – clever idea to eliminate the white edge with colouring. Sounds like a wonderful trip too :-)
