There are a few main concepts that are key when creating masculine memory keeping layouts (or any other layouts). These simple concepts are sure to help you create an impactful layout.
Color Palette
A color palette is probably key when creating masculine memory keeping layouts. Cooler colors (green/blue/teal/earthy yellow and orange) are typically associated with men. However, you can choose any color that will help tell the story. The key is to create contrast. I am playing with teal and turquoise for color but contrasting it with black and white plus a touch of gold.
2. Add texture
Texture is always a good thing when creating any project. However, creating masculine memory keeping layouts is not about achieving a maximum tactile effect; instead, consider subtle but contrasting textures. I am adding some tactile interest with a bit of embossing (Antique Gold Crisp Embossing Powder) when creating the flowers and the stenciled background in the photo. The coordinating enamel dots are another subtle way to add texture in seconds.
3. Linear shapes
We tend to associate pinstripes and plaids with masculine designs. Though any design can be used when creating masculine memory keeping layouts, a linear design (like in the Build-A-Garden: Glowing Gardenias Layering Coloring Stencil) helps to bring focus to the page. In my spread, I am using the stenciled lines as a way to create a guiding line to the tag and journaling on the page.
4. Negative space
We always talk about negative space, but when creating masculine memory keeping layouts this is very important. Leaving space between the elements in a layout gives them space to shine on their own and together as a cohesive group. I am choosing to hide my journaling behind the tag as a way to keep the page airy and light.
Using a brad helps to hinge the tag to the spread. Once you move the tag, the journaling is revealed. Those stenciled lines are just a great way to frame the journaling. I am even using lots of negative space when choosing my stamped title (Paint-A-Flower: Poppy) and sentiment (Embellished Hexagon).

Designer's Tips!
Make these gardenias truly glow by stamping the bouquet and then inking around it with embossing ink through the coordinating stencil. Sprinkle on some metallic or neon embossing powder, then heat set for a stunning result!
Want your project to pop? Stamp (and color) the arrangement directly onto your card base/cardstock, then stamp the blooms separately on another piece of cardstock and cut with the coordinating die. Color in those images and then pop them up with a bit of Instant Dimension Foam Tape!
Add additional texture to your project with the embossed leaf dies. They can also be added to other flower stamps and dies in your stash for even more versatility
