Hello Friends! Deepa Robbins here. I am so excited about this opportunity to host this month's Inspiration Challenge!
Here is the story behind this photo. In 2013, my then-boyfriend and I bought a house in a developing city in Canada, and little did we know, we’d be raising our family of five here in the years to come. We had two baby girls in this house. Eventually, we moved to another city where we had our third daughter. There, we realized that we enjoyed our old city a lot and missed it. So in 2020, we moved back to another house on the exact same street. Right now, I’m a stay-at-home mom taking care of my daughters. I tried my best to go walking with them on a daily basis around our neighborhood. On one of our walks, we passed by our old house. We saw these beautiful flowers that were watered by the rainstorm that had just passed. I liked how there was a mix of colors which is exactly like my 3 daughters with their beautiful mix of skin tones. So I pulled out my phone and snapped a photo of them. I found it significant that these were planted at the house we started our family in. That is why this photo inspired my card today. I hope the beauty in the flowers inspires you too!
First, I prepared my colors. I have been playing with ways for beginners to use Altenew products with the Artists' Gouache Set – Strolling Through New York. Sometimes, just picking up a paintbrush and painting may seem daunting but if you use gouache paints with a stamp set, you can get professional results at any skill level. The gouache paints are perfect for layered stamping due to their opaque nature, which you can’t achieve with watercolors. I hope you’ll give this a try too!
Next, Using the Build-A-Flower: Morning Glory Layering Stamp & Die Set, I started by applying the paint on the stamp itself starting with the lightest color. Then, I added my own artistic touch adding more details to the card. I finished it by adding paint splatter, adding the sentiment, and some ink blending with Lime Crisp Dye Ink.
