How to Create Photo Cards in 3 Easy Steps

by Virginia Lu

Hello Altenew friends! It's Virginia here. As we approach our summer months in North America, that doesn't mean I have to stop my fun indoor projects! One of my favorite things to do during the summer is turning special photos into photo cards! It is a fun and meaningful activity to do with kids, especially. With the steps below, I hope that you will be inspired to create your very own special photo cards!

When the Whimsical Flowers & Quotes Stamp Set was released, I knew it was ideal for a photo card. It has an ornate and lovely hand-drawn borders with a fairly large opening in the center. Not only it is suitable for coloring enthusiasts, it is also ideal for creating a photo card! Here are my 3 simple steps:

Step 1: Select a photo and theme: I chose my daughter and son-in-law's wedding photo from last fall. The design of Whimsical Flowers and Quotes Stamp Set pairs well with their elegant clothing. The white-embossing on Vellum Translucent Paper matches my daughter's dress and works well as a photo frame.

Step 2: Fussy cut, trim, fit and arrange: after embossing the image (in Pure White Embossing Powder) on Vellum Translucent Paper, I cut around the frame from the inside. I trimmed off a few small parts of leaves and branches to make the photo fit in better. When cutting detailed images, I've learned to rotate the paper as I cut.

When gluing the vellum to photo, I used Altenew 3 Pack Glue Tape. It is strong and invisible behind the white embossing. I also added extra glue behind the sequins.

Step 3: Embellish: the Satin White Sequins are beautiful. I only needed a few of them for that extra sparkle.

Photo cards are perfect for sending to relatives and friends who live far away. I think any of them would LOVE to receive this family photo card!

Hi Mary-Anne V. I used Altenew 3 Pack Glue Tape for gluing vellum and card stock. It is strong and invisible behind the white embossing. I also added extra glue behind the sequins. The post has been edited for that info. Thank you!

I may be a bit biased, as I am the bride in the photo, but I love this card! Beautiful work as usual, Virginia!

Absolute perfection! This type of frame of heat embossed vellum could be in other colors. I am glad you were not afraid to fussy cut the interior to match the picture. Just lovely and it will be a great addition to my cards.

So beautiful, the card and the couple! Ideal for a first year – and beyond – anniversary card. It would also make an awesome focal point on a wedding quilt!

Very beautiful couple. The card is gorgeous. The use of the vellum really steps it up to different level. So elegant! Who would not enjoy having their wedding pictures or child’s birth in that frame.
Thanks for sharing.

For my wedding thank you cards, I knew I wanted to add pictures from my wedding on them. However, I wish I had your example and idea back then. I just love this look the vellum, it looks so pretty against the picture. Stunning! I will have to use this idea for christmas cards. (Although, it look me 6 months to send out my thank you notes from my wedding! So might not get them until after christmas. A late New Years holiday card. lol But it would be soo worth it.
