Birthday Card with Gracious Peonies Bundle

by Svitlana Shayevich

Hello, crafty friends!

Svitlana is here. The other day I was commuting on a bus from the city and saw an ad for a sportsman in a blue outfit on a gray splash background. I immediately thought – that color scheme would look great on a birthday card. So I did one using the recently released, very beautiful Gracious Peonies Bundle, which I'm sharing with you today.

Birthday Card with Gracious Peonies

I started making the card by white embossing the beautiful floral from the Gracious Peonies Stamp Set onto an A2 Watercolor Paper using the Pure White Embossing Powder.

After that, I colored the embossed peonies using the Gracious Peonies Layering Stencil Set. I used the Sea Breeze, Turquoise, Tide Blue, Starlight Dye Inks, Large Blending Brushes, and Mini Blending Brushes for coloring.

Next, I made a watercolor wash around the embossed image using the Lava Rock Watercolor Brush Marker from the Tropical Fiesta Watercolor Markers Set.

To do it, I first watered the area with clear water using a round brush 4 from the Round Watercolor Brush Set. Then, I added Lava Rock Watercolor using the Lava Rock Watercolor Brush Marker right next to the edges of the embossed image and washed it out with the wet round brush.

After the background dried, I splattered the panel with the Pure White Ink Spray. Followed by foam mounting the panel onto a white card base using the Instant Dimension Foam Tape.

To make the sentiment, I used the Tiny Sentiments: Wishing Bundle.

First, I die-cut the wishing world from a Solar White Cardstock using the Tiny Sentiments: Wishing Die. Next, I stamped the sentiment onto the die-cut using a stamp from the Tiny Sentiments: Wishing Stamp Set with Permanent Black Ink.

The sentiment was popped up onto the card, which finished it off.

I really like how gray and blue look together on this card. I also added white details (sentiment, splatters, embossing, card base) to tone down the gray background drama and make it look fresher.

It was also very easy to make, thanks to effortless coloring with the Gracious Peonies Layering Stencil Set and a very basic watercolor wash background.

I encourage you to look for inspiration everywhere; you can find it in unexpected places. Like on a sports ad during a boring and heavy traffic commute.

Have a wonderful day!
