First Father’s Day Layout

by Aimee Dow

I can't speak for the rest of the creative team, but believe me when I say – ‘Sometimes creating layouts is hard work'. You often have to work to tight deadlines, occasionally you'll get assigned a stamp set that you aren't sure how to use and lord knows there is never a muse around when you want one.

This is not one of those layouts. I have been absolutely itching to play with the Simple Flowers Stamp Set since it was released. Our fearless and creative leader, May, did an amazing job designing it. I spent a good half hour stamping out flowers and leaves in a multitude of brilliant Altenew colors, to match the photos I had chosen of Chris's first Fathers Day. I always find this process very therapeutic and calming. Shame, I don't feel the same toward fussy cutting.

I decided to create a basic grid layout with the photos in two opposite quarters and the flowers in the adjacent quarters. I mixed and matched the bunches until I had a nice balance. Both bunches have small flowers of Warm Sunshine and leaves of Lagoon and Volcano Lake Crisp Ink.

The top bunch of flowers has a Ruby Red Rose and a Persian Blue flower.

The bottom bunch of two flowers of Sapphire and Caribbean Sky with a Crimson rose.

I know it seems like a lot of inks, but they all work so well with Amy Tangerine's new collection and far more importantly the wrapping paper in my photos. I used a piece of Amy Tangerine's stripe pattern paper to back my layout and to tie it all together.

The other pattern papers in my layout were off cuts from my scrap pile I keep in a container my desk. If that wasn't handy enough all the embellishments were already on my desk too. They were left over packets and veneers from the last couple of months kits that needed to used up. The reason I'm telling this is two fold: 1) To prove that the Simple Flower Stamp Set goes with EVERYTHING and 2) I am in fact capable of doing a layout (even a heavily stamped one) in under an hour. That's right my friends, once in a million years, when all the stars align and the climate control in studio is actually working, I can rock out a layout with time for a cup of tea before Eva wakes up from her nap. The moral of the story is you need this set. I'm pretty sure it comes with your own little invisible muse squished inside the plastic sleeve too.

Until next month my dear friends,

Aimee Xx

I have just bought this set as I had been desperate to get it since it was launched. I have seen it used in so many ways and will be having a lot of fun playing! I really like the bright and zingy colours you’ve used.
Best wishes
