Hot Foiling + Monochrome = Perfect for Masculine Cards!

by Emily

Do you struggle with masculine cards? Emily Midgett here with you today sharing some inspiration using several different Altenew products.

Masculine cards are typically outside of my normal floral wheelhouse, but when I foiled the Exquisite Marble Hot Foil Plate, it was just begging to be made into a masculine card.

I kept the color scheme very simple with grays and whites (to help me avoid using any feminine colors like pink, ha!), pairing the loose pattern of the marble background with the geometric shape in the Labels and Tags 1 Die Set.

Let's get started with the details!

Create the Perfect Masculine Cards Easily

First, I hot foiled the Exquisite Marble Hot Foil Plate onto some smooth white cardstock using shiny graphite gray foil. I love how shiny this foil is — very dark and providing plenty of contrast, but not quite black!

I trimmed down the panel to fit a mini slimline card front, leaving room around the edge to mat the foiled panel on a full-size (3.5″x6″) mini slimline card base. I mounted the foiled panel to a deep gray mini slimline card base using liquid adhesive to make sure it was perfectly straight.

Next, I die cut a white tag using the Labels and Tags 1 Die Set. I used a ruler and pencil to mark a straight line towards the center of the die-cut, which allowed me to line up my sentiment stamps more easily and precisely.

Then, I used the Modern Hello stamp set to stamp the layered greeting, stamping the “Hello” using Evening Gray ink, and stamping the “Dad” using Lava Rock ink.

The warm gray inks match the graphite gray foil of the marble background perfectly!

I die cut another of the same Labels and Tags 1 Die, cut it in half, and slightly offset it on the top and bottom to create a bit of contrast around the edges of the sentiment label. Then, I popped up the sentiment label using Instant Dimension Foam Tape, then added a few white leaf sprigs, cut from some more smooth white cardstock using the Decorative Swirls die set, and adhered just at the base using liquid adhesive.

TIP! Adhering just at the base allows the leaves to pop up off of the card front a bit and add some more dimension and texture to the card!

Well, that's all for my card project today. If you struggle with masculine cards as I do, I hope you found this inspiration useful! I always find that natural textures (like marble) and geometric shapes (like the tag die) to be very useful when creating a more masculine or gender-neutral project. Thanks so much for reading, and have a marvelous day!
