Welcome to Creativity Unlocked, where we highlight a new product from each month's collection or a fan favorite from past collections!

I love the design and sentiment in the new Craft Your Life Project Kit: Literary Blooms.  The avid reader in me was instantly drawn to the illustrations and possibilities of this set.  The love for the set design and books inspired this new idea for my reading journal.

EASY Journaling Hack for a Clean & Stylish Journal Spread

I wanted to use the set in different ways to help me track of my reading activity (I am only up to 30 books for the year!) in my notebook style journal. The idea of combining listing and journaling came together in this spread, and I love how it turned out by just following the three main criteria for the spread.

Keep the Spread Clean and Simple

Negative space and organization are key to keeping my spread clean and simple. To achieve this, firstly, I am splitting my spread into two sections: a list and journaling page.

For my list, I am creating a pocket  to house my lists, however for the journaling page, I am opting for encasing the journaling in little boxes.  I used the Nesting Slim Rectangles Die Set and the 0.1 Fine Liner Pen to draw the journaling boxes for each  description.

A simple sentiment from the Tabbed Stamp Set provides a starting point for the journaling.

Let's Make It Colorful

I wanted to add splash of color to this journaling spread. What better way than to use the stencil from the Craft Your Life Project Kit: Literary Blooms and  different inks to bring a pop of happiness to the spread (you can find all the color inks that I used in the supply list).  I chose these colors to complement those in the book cover photos.

I set the book spine die-cuts on the vellum pocket, then placed the open book on the center of the pocket. I adhered two of the floral die-cuts to make the flowering bouquet larger.  I couldn't resist adding the small sentiment at the bottom of the pocket.

A Bit of Style Adds a Final Touch

I wanted a way to tie the two sides of the spread together – while keeping it all simple and clean – so what better idea than to add a few extra florals to the page.

Since my notebook's pages are a soft gray color, I decided to stamp the floral image of the Literary Blooms with soft gray ink. The tone-on-tone images add an extra detail and style without overtaking the page.

I’m soooo in love with this spread!!! I bought this set so I could make little gifts for my book club. I originally thought about book marks, but I’ve changed my mind (or maybe I’ll do both) – a little journal for everyone with our books for the year. Thank you, thank you, thank you!!!
