Hi there, are you ready for a new Inspiration Challenge? Learn how to create a gorgeous and easy floral card with just 2 stamp sets in this post!
It's Terri here, and I am super excited to host the May 2022 Inspiration Challenge, which is inspired by nature. My inspiration photo was taken way back in 2019, when I visited the Botanical Gardens here in Bristol, UK.
The inspiration photo can be used however you choose; you could use the colors, the imagery, flip it, mix it with other images — just have fun and let loose.
I chose to use the colors to inspire me. When I took the photo, it was such a hot day and I felt that the hot pink and bright yellow screamed tropical, so I used the Totally Tropical Stamp Set along with the Parrot Paradise Stamp Set to create a super summery floral cluster.
How to Make an Easy Floral Card
Stamping and Creating Masks
I started by grabbing my chosen stamp sets and some Masking Paper – this card uses a LOT of masking.
First, I stamped the flower that I wanted to be in the foreground using Obsidian Pigment Ink and added a mask. To create the mask, I use the residual ink that is left on the stamp, stamped onto the masking paper, and then fussy cut it.
TIP! It's really important to cut on or just inside the stamped line, so that the whole image is covered when you add it to your card. If not you will end up with a halo around your images!
I carried on adding flowers and leaves from both the Parrot Paradise Stamp Set and Totally Tropical Stamp Set, stamping and fussy cutting masks as I went.
Ink Layering
Once all of the flower and leave outlines were stamped and masked, I started to add the stamped layers to add color and detail.
I used the following Crisp Dye Ink Pads for the flowers; Baby Pink, Fuchsia, Magenta, Citrus Burst, Fresh Lemon, Maple Yellow, and Honey Drizzle. The leaves were stamped using Lime and Fresh Leaf inks.
My favorite part of using the masking technique is removing the mask and revealing the images — it's magical!
To finish this easy floral card, I added a heat-embossed sentiment from Totally Tropical Stamp Set onto a black cardstock strip. I used Altenew's Embossing Ink and Pure White Crisp Embossing Powder. I then adhered this to the bottom of my card and embellished it with a few enamel dots from the Essential Black and White Enamel Dots Set.
Now it's your turn to create a project inspired by the inspiration picture above; remember, it doesn't have to be a floral card! Be as creative as you want!
