EASY Cardmaking Tip to Make Your Focal Point Pop!

by Hannelie Bester

Hello Altenew friends, Hannelie here today, sharing a clean and simple “miss you” card, with a quick and easy cardmaking tip on how to make your focal point pop.

My choice of products for today's card was inspired by the country we have called home for the past 16 years. Although the UAE is well known for its big shiny cities, you don't have to travel far to find the natural beauty of the vast desert, which is home to large numbers of camels. I am always intrigued by the beautiful bright colors the owners use to dress or decorate their camels. With this in mind, you can understand why I am excited about the Altenew Desert Life bundle!

EASY Cardmaking Tip to Make Your Focal Point Pop!

This bundle consists of an outline stamp set featuring a camel image and a variety of mix and match sentiments, a coordinating die for the camel, and a 3D embossing folder that provides the perfect background for the image.

How to Create a Clean and Simple Miss You Card

  1. Use the Stampwheel to stamp the image onto watercolor paper with Obsidian ink.
  2. Color the image. I used the following colors from the Watercolor 36 pan : Fresh Lemon, Warm Sunshine, Sunkissed, Bamboo, Lagoon, Paperbag & Mocha.
  3. When the watercolored image is dry, use the coordinating die to cut it out with your die-cutting machine.
  4. Cut out another camel from black card stock and adhere it to the back of the colored image. Cardmaking Tip #1: I used a liquid glue, which allows me to adjust the black layer to create an offset effect or a shadow effect, even though the two images are the same size.
  5. Stamp the sentiment
  6. Use a circle die to cut it out
  7. Cut another circle from black card stock and repeat the process to create a shadow effect
  8. Use the 3D embossing folder to emboss the background.
  9. Trim the embossed background panel to the desired size. I trimmed mine to reveal a small border of the black card base.
  10. Assemble the card by adhering the embossed panel to the card base with an adhesive of your choice. Use Instant Dimension Foam tape to attach the camel to the bottom right corner of the card, and the sentiment in the upper left corner.
  11. Embellish the card with black enamel dots.

Cardmaking Tip #2:

By repeating the black layer for multiple elements of the design, it creates a great cohesive look!

Cardmaking Tip #3: Black is a great neutral color to use as an accent color to make your focal point pop. By repeating an accent color you will achieve an amazing cohesive design and draw all attention to the focal point.
