Paint-A-Flower: Chamomile Outline Stamp Set

If you have ever used a mug or teacup as a makeshift flower vase, then you will love this stamp set! The outline stamp set has been designed with a little whimsy and a lot of imagination. It features a charming nod to actual chamomile tea with a cup and saucer, along with a more traditional bouquet arrangement in a vase. The sentiments in the set will help you send healing thoughts to your loved ones.

Today, I have a tag to share with you using the Paint-A-Flower: Chamomile Outline Stamp Set in a different way, and that is with paper piecing! This is a fun way to ‘color' images without coloring!

Stamping & Coloring

I first stamped the image from the Paint-A-Flower: Chamomile Outline Stamp Set onto Classic Crest 110lb Solar White Cardstock using Permanent Black Ink. I then colored the flowers using Artist Alcohol Markers.

I used the yellows from Sunshine Valley Garden Artist Alcohol Markers Set F (Honey Drizzle, Maple Yellow, Fresh Lemon, and Citrus Burst) for the flower centers. I then added a little shading to the petals with Lavender Fields and Soft Lilac from Mediterranean Terrace Garden Artist Alcohol Markers Set B.

I wanted the chamomile petals to remain quite light, so I used a flicking motion with the marker and left the edges of the petals white. I did also go in with the Colorless Blender if I got any harsh edges. This helps to blend them out.

Paper Piecing

I stamped the image again onto a sheet of paper from the Alcohol Ink Backgrounds 6×6 Paper Pad. It was fussy cut out with scissors and then for some added dimension and for it to look like part of the image and not just stuck on top, I added shading to it using Deep Iris, Lavender Fields, and Soft Lilac Artist Alcohol Markers.

TOP TIP: When fussy cutting images, paint around the edges with a black pen to hide the white core of the paper. It makes it look like you cut the images out perfectly!

It was adhered on top of the stamped image and then the whole thing was fussy cut out with scissors, leaving a small white border.

Creating the Tag

I die cut a tag from white cardstock using one of the large tags in the Terrific Tags Die Set. I also cut a scrap of paper from the Essential Black & White 6×6 Paper Pack using the bottom of the tag die and adhered it on top, followed by a small strip of black cardstock. This is to help ground the image onto the tag and make it so it does not look like it is just floating on top.

The image was adhered on top using Instant Dimension Foam Tape.

I stamped the sentiment from the Paint-A-Flower: Chamomile Outline Stamp Set onto black cardstock using Embossing Ink. I applied Pure White Crisp Embossing Powder and heat set. It was cut into a strip and adhered to the tag using foam tape and Glue Tape.

For some added interest, I added white gel pen dots to the centers of the flowers. I then added twine through the top of the tag to finish.

Although I have created a tag today, this technique can be used in so many different ways – cards, layouts, and DIY home décor. The possibilities are endless! You can also use lots of different papers for the technique too!

I hope I have inspired you to try paper-piecing stamped images. You can watch the full process video below or on YouTube.
