Now on to my project for today which is inspired by the monochrome geometric tattoo designs. As always, I have a process video to share as well so be sure to check that out for tips and ideas.
Masking on One-Layer Card
I decided I wanted to create a one layer card today. Firstly, stamp the smaller of the flowers from the Spring Daisy Stamp Set in Obsidian Pigment Ink. Now, mask this image. Then stamp the larger flower and mask this as well. Once the flowers are done, stamp the leaves repeatedly to build your bouquet. For my cluster, I mainly used the pair of leaves and stamped that repeatedly. I did use the single leaf too but only to show a change in direction. Mask all the leaves as well.
You will have to watch the video to understand this part better. Make two different sized circular stencils (masks) out of copy paper. Place them onto the card panel. Then place the Broken Chevrons Stencil over it, lining it with one edge of the panel. Note that the stencil will move so either use a spray adhesive, washi tape, or hold it firmly. I did the latter. Through the stencil, apply Jet Black Mixed Media Ink with the help of a Small Blending Brush. As you can see, this ink gives you a supreme jet black and beautiful result. ALWAYS use this for stenciling if you want jet black patterns.
Add Pen Detail
Once done, remove the masks. Add black paint splatters from the 12 Pan Essential Watercolor Set.
Next, with the help of the 005 point pen from the Fine Liner Pen Set add details to the petals. These are going to be simple line details, just flicks or strokes. You can even add this detail as stippling, this is completely up to you.
Add Faux Dimension
Next, use a black color pencil (I used a graphite and a black color pencil both) to add shadows to the outer side of the image and the circular shapes. With the help of a blending stump, blend the pencil shading a little for a softer, more natural effect.
Additionally, I drew vertical lines of various thicknesses. The third black element balanced the design considerably. You can add these as well or add a third, smaller sized circle on the top right. All you will have to do is start stamping a little lower than I did.
The sentiment is from You are Beautiful Stamp Set. To finish, I added a few black crystals.

Your card is beautiful! It was great watching your video. I really like how you filled in the flower stamp. I have a number of flower stamps from Altenew that are a bit plain and I am inspired to add to them although I will need lots of practice to make them look good!

This one layer card that’s monochromatic is outstanding. Just goes to show that you don’t always need lots of color to achieve something that takes your breath away. Thank you.
