How-to Video: Add Texture to Your Cards | Creative Coloring with Erum

by Erum Tasneem

Hi there everyone! Erum here and today I am sharing with you a project that I created after watching the amazing Tania Ahmed do her magic in Demystifying Mixed Media Class.

To start, I die cut the Dog Rose Panel Die A and B out of Turquoise Cardstock. Next, I used  Galactic Stream Dye Ink to ink die-cut “B” with the help of a blending brush.  After this, I pored over Crystal Clear Embossing Powder over it and heat set. Don't worry if the powder doesn't stick to the entire surface as we are going for texture and not gloss.

I repeated the same with the die-cut “A” but this time, I swipe the Galactic Stream Dye Ink pad over the die-cut. Also, I used a blending brush to cover the nooks, crannies, and areas that the ink pad missed. Next, I took some gold watercolor from the Metallic Watercolors Set and with my finger, applied it onto the die-cut “A” in some places. Heat set this right away so that the watercolor is sealed with the melted clear embossing powder.

For the card front, I inked the edges of the kraft cardstock with Milk Chocolate Dye Ink with the help of a blending brush. Next, I swiped the Embossing Ink pad along the edges and also used my finger to apply some on the border. After this, I poured over Antique Gold Embossing Powder over it and heat set it from underneath the panel. The reason for doing this was so that the extra embossing powder doesn't blow away.

I adhered all the die-cut panels together and placed it on an off white matting. Before doing this, I inked the off white panel with leftover brown ink on the blending brush. I added gold splatters from the Metallic Watercolors Set on the card front. Then adhered the die-cut panels with foam tape.

The sentiment is from the Sentiment Strips 2 Stamp Set which I stamped in Obsidian Ink. To add a bit more gold, I popped up a few Satin Gold Sequins.
