Hi friends! Emily Midgett here with you today, and I have some inspiration using the new Zero Waste: Hearts Aplenty Hot Foil Plate and Coordinating Die set!

February is an homage to hearts and to love, and while there are many different kinds of love in the world, today my cards are for those friends for whom we have feelings of platonic love.

I have been reading Anne of Green Gables to my big kids at bedtime, and she frequently speaks of “bosom friends” and “kindred spirits,” feelings of deep affection for friends that do not transform into feelings of romance.

Both of my cards today were inspired by the quote that I found in the Well Read sentiment stamp set, appropriately from Anne of Green Gables. Let's get started with the details!

Sharing Love With the Zero Waste: Hearts Aplenty Set

I am not normally a huge fan of hearts, preferring a simpler and more classic shape around which to base my card design, but in this month of love, one cannot help but use hearts anywhere possible.

For today's projects, I wanted to showcase how you can use the Zero Waste: Hearts Aplenty hot foil plate and die both individually as well as together.

I paired these dainty hot foiled heart images with some Brushed Gold Foil (Mirror) and a solid hot foil plate to be able to use as many of the hot foiled images as possible.

First, I hot-foiled the Zero Waste: Hearts Aplenty hot foil plate onto some white cardstock, then used the leftover foil piece with a solid hot foil plate to create the reverse image using the negative.

Then, I die-cut the almost-solid reverse piece, creating delicate little heart confetti. I also die-cut some solid gold glitter hearts using the Zero Waste: Hearts Aplenty hot foil plate and some gold glitter cardstock from the Gilded Glitter Cardstock set.

Card Design #1

For my first project, I used small blending tools to blend Purple Wine, Acai Berry, and Plum Fresh Dye Ink on my hot foiled heart panel.

I love the unexpected hot pink-to-deep-plum ombré of this ink color combination! I usually do at least two layers of ink to ensure that each color blends smoothly into the next, especially when I'm working with super-saturated inks like these.

After I had finished blending, I splattered the entire panel with some metallic gold watercolors to add a bit of whimsy to the background, emulating the whimsically-shaped heart pattern on the panel.

The contrast between the intense pink and purple with the shining, shimmering gold accents is so luxurious!

For the greeting, I heat embossed the poignant sentiment from Anne of Green Gables from the Well Read sentiment stamp set using gold embossing powder on vibrant magenta cardstock.

I trimmed the generously sized sentiment down, then used some residual ink left on my blending brush to blend Acai Berry ink around the edges of the sentiment piece, which helped the glimmering gold sentiment stand out a bit more from the vibrant pink background.

To add another element of gold (completing the “rule of three” for accent colors), I matted the sentiment piece on a panel of glittery gold cardstock.

I popped the greeting up with foam tape, finally finishing everything off with some sparkling gold jewels.

Card Design #2

For my second card, I kept the same vibrant pink and gold color scheme, this time taking advantage of the leftover hot foiled hearts created by using the negative foil piece, solid hot foil plate, and the coordinating die.

I began my card by lightly blending some Acai Berry ink on a panel of vivid magenta cardstock, orienting the blended halo on the bottom right quadrant of my pink A2 card front.

Blending on colored cardstock makes the blended color that much more intense and eye-catching!

Once I had finished blending, I splattered the blended background with more metallic gold watercolors. I just adore that contrast!

For the greeting, I kept things simple, die cutting the straightforward “love you” from the Timeless Sentiments die set from gold glitter cardstock in the Gilded Glitter Cardstock pack.

I backed the glittering detail layer with a vellum shadow, adding a bit of extra emphasis on the sentiment without adding any further color to the card.

After that, I popped the greeting die-cuts up with some Instant Dimension Foam Tape, then accented the greeting with some die-cut gold hearts that I had created using the Zero Waste: Hearts Aplenty hot foil plate and die combination.

I arranged the hearts in a (hopefully) random cascade around the greeting, popping them up with foam adhesive.

Then, finally, I filled in some of the bare spots in the visual cascade with some iridescent pink gems from my stash.

Well, that's all for my projects today – two inspiring card designs with the Zero Waste: Hearts Aplenty Hot Foil Plate and Coordinating Die Set.

These cards both feature simple, heartfelt greetings that would be perfect for a dear friend. It's always nice to hear that a friend cares about you!

In any case, it’s the season of love, so let’s spread the warm fuzzy feels! Who will you give this card to? Tell us in the comments or share this inspiration with them and maybe you’ll end up exchanging cards this season!

Thanks so much for stopping by today, and have a marvelous day!
