Background Focus for Quick and Easy Cards + Video

by Laurie Willison

Hello friends!  It's Laurie Willison here with a new card and a video. One question I get all the time is how to create a clean and simple card. Well, so many times I have full intentions of adding all the layers and colors and details….but my brain won't let me. I definitely love the simplicity of white space with a bold focal point. One way to keep it simple is to add the color and/or detail in the background and leave the bloom or main image in black and white.

altenewfloralartlauriewillison2This card was so fun to make using the Sketched Lines Stencil. I masked off the edges of the card base and then added the color in. I used Frayed Leaf ink from the Green Fields Mini Cube Set. I also blended in Volcano Lake and Mountain Mist inks from the Sea Shore Mini Cube Set.

altenewfloralartlauriewillison4I used the large bloom from the Floral Art Stamp Set. I just love this bloom! It looks amazing left in black and white.

altenewfloralartlauriewillison1One of my most favorite Altenew stamp sets is called Thinking of You. This set includes LOTS of sentiments in different fonts. I grabbed one of the simple “thinking of you” sentiments and stamped it in the corner. I added the bloom up on foam tape and then finished it off with some black enamel dots.

Thanks so much for stopping by today! Hope you have a great day!
