Altenew October Blog Hop

Good morning, and welcome to our October release blog hop! As of now, all the new stamps are available for purchase at our store, and you can pre-order them at the Simon Says Stamp Store. We have gathered an amazing group of designers to celebrate this release! Join us and hop along for some inspiration and fabulous prizes!

Jen and I designed some cards using the new stamps, so let's get started with them :)

Whimsical Flowers

With a bit of masking, the Whimsical Flowers set can be used to create one-layer floral arrangements. To add a bit of flair, the sentiment and the centers of the flowers were embossed in gold.

Lacy Scrolls

In this card, a flower and some swirls from the Lacy Scrolls set were all heat embossed in gold on a a piece of black card stock. To add a little color, some leaves from the Vintage Roses set were added. The sentiment is from the Scribbled Flowers set, and was stamped on a strip of cream card stock, and adhered to the black panel.

Painted Butterflies

Stamps from the Doodle Blooms and the Painted Butterflies were combined on this card. One of the leafy branches was stamped twice in pool colored ink, then colored in using a matching Copic marker. The butterfly was then stamped starting with the outline layer, then using it as a guide to stamp the solid layer and the detail layer. A simple sentiment from the Painted Butterflies set finished this card clean as simple.

These multi-step flowers from Painted Poppy were stamped in 3 different colors to create a lovely mini poppy field!  The main flower was stamped onto a separate piece of cardstock and added with foam tape.  The sentiment was stamped in two different colors to highlight the different fonts.

Our Halftone Hello set allows you to create an instant gradient with a single ink.  Here, it was inked with dye ink- although you will get a more crisp and accurate image with pigment or chalk ink (due to the extreme detail!  The dye ink makes the dots bleed together a bit).  To add a bit of emphasis to one “hello,” the coordinating outline was stamped over it in black ink.  Star wood veneers were colored with black and white gel pen before getting adhered to the card.

Stamping the letters from Invisible Alpha onto patterned paper gives such a cool 3D effect!  The letters are super easy to line up on your acrylic block, so creating your own sentiment is a breeze!  Flowers and leaves from Peony Scrolls were stamped onto white card stock and cut out- no coloring necessary!

This card shows how beautiful the Westminster Abbey stamp from Sketchy Landmarks looks with a colorful watercolor wash behind it!  Once the watercolor was dry, the church was stamped in VersaFine ink to ensure crisp details.  The sentiment, from Lyrical Script, was also stamped in the same ink, and the watercolor panel was then mounted onto a white card base.

The poinsettia image from Poinsettia and Pine looks artistic and beautiful on its own, but even more striking with extra dimension! It was stamped 3 times and layered with foam tape for a really cool look.  The rest of the card features a bit of patterned paper, a black die cut frame, and a sentiment from Lyrical Script, which was embossed onto vellum.

A wreath was created using one of the pine branches from Poinsettia and Pine, which was curved onto the acrylic block and inked up in two shades of green.  The pine cones were stamped in brown ink and carefully cut out before popping up with foam tape.  The sentiment from Lyrical Script was stamped, then that portion was die cut with a tag-shaped die and popped up for some cool dimension!  A bit of string and rhinestones finish it off.

To make the lovely sky background, Distress Ink was blended onto white card stock, then a bit of snow was drawn on with a white gel pen.  The sentiment from Festive Silhouettes was stamped in black ink to allow some of the sky to show through.  Next, a forest of trees was stamped, cut out, and adhered with foam tape to finish off the scene!

Peony Scrolls

Contrary to the popular way of embossing in white/clear, the Peonies and the swirls from the Peony Scrolls set were embossed in black and then water-colored. The embossed outlines makes water coloring very easy, as the raised edges prevent the colors from mixing between adjacent areas, and give each a distinct look. To finish the card, a sentiment from the Many Thanks set was stamped in black, and the water-color panel adhered to a black card base.

Doodle Blooms

The leafy branches from the Doodle Blooms set were stamped in gray on white card stock, and fussy cut leaving a white edge. The flowers were embossed in white on water color paper, and colored in, then trimmed at the outlines.  A sentiment from the Many Thanks set was stamped directly on the card base, and the the cut out foliage were arranged around it.

Vintage Roses

The Roses and the leaves from the Vintage Roses set were all stamped on white card stock and trimmed. They were then arranged on a gray card stock and topped with a ‘hello' sentiment from the Halftone Hello set. The outline ‘hello' was stamped on white card stock and trimmed using precision scissors and a craft knife. Everything was adhered using foam tape, except for the leaves, which were adhered using strong adhesive.
