February 2023 Inspiration Challenge feat. Special Guest Host LauraJane

Hello, friends! It’s LauraJane, and I’m thrilled to be guest hosting the February 2023 Inspiration Challenge here at Altenew. 

The inspiration photo was taken on a super COLD winter evening at dusk. The contrast of the treeline silhouettes and the vibrant clouds brings great joy and awe to the beauty of nature!

For my project, which turned into 5 cards, (Eeek! I just couldn’t stop playing!) I wanted to focus on the brilliant colors and capture the billowing texture of the clouds. 

I masked off a few of the card front panels with Satin Masking Tape.

Then, I started out by playing with the Woodless Watercolor Pencils on Watercolor Paper and spritzed clean water with the Fine Mister to make several different backgrounds. The colors used were Coral Bliss, Rubellite, and Lavender Fields. 

For most of the panels, I shaved bits of the watercolor pencil off with scissors, as Jaycee shared in THIS video. For one panel, I smooshed stamps into the wet pigment from one panel onto another dry panel, creating a dreamy background. Can you tell which retired stamp set I used for this one?

While the panels dried completely, I filed through my stash of dies, searching for just the right silhouettes to cut from black cardstock. I found many that I wanted to craft with to complete my cards.
