Perfect Pairings with Jaycee | Video Tutorial
Did you know Perfect Pairings with Jaycee airs every second and fourth Sunday of the month? Fortunately, my video coincided with the release of the Craft Your Life Project Kit: Vintage Tapestry. In my tutorial, I share three card-making techniques to make your bold blooms stand out from your dark cardstock backgrounds.
Bohemian Floral Tapestry
For my first card, I started with a cream-colored background. Dye inks still show through light-colored cardstocks but now I have the added benefit of a warmer tone to my flowers. I matched my floral die-cuts to my background for a seamless appearance.
“Almond Blossoms” Inspired Floral Card
This card background with a medium hue was inspired by Van Gogh's “Almond Blossoms.” I used an embossed resist technique to ensure my white flowers do not get lost in the white space around the die-cut. I did the same technique for the leaves so my flowers take center stage on my card.
Dark and Moody Flower Bouquet Card
Finally, I meticulously colored in the outline of the space between the stamped images and the die-cut edge. An alternative to this (if you have the patience) is to fussy cut all the floral elements. This way, white flowers stand out and have clear edges on a black background. I prefer this method over fussy cutting for complicated shapes like thin stems and branches.

The embossing folder in this kit is amazing. I love how you can use it in direction and it will still draw your eye around the card. Sometimes creating movement on a card is tricky, but not with this embossing folder. I will be using it a lot with all my floral images. We need more folders with stencils in this movement style please!
Love the drama of your Dark and Moody card.
