Project Inspiration

I have a pair of projects for you today featuring the stencils and layered stamping found in the Craft Your Life: Garden Rose kit, so let's get started with the details!

10122021 PK Garden Rose both

I love a crisp sapphire blue. It's so classy and timeless, and paired with the right accent colors can be absolutely stunning. Both of my projects feature roses from the Craft Your Life: Garden Rose Project Kit created by combining the stencil base layer and the stamped detail layers. When working with images like these, I like to start by stamping/stenciling a big bunch of them, and then playing with a variety of arrangements until I find just the right one. For these projects, I began by stenciling several base layers of the roses using Rose Quartz Crisp Dye Ink on white cardstock, and then adding the stamped detail layers using Puffy Heart and Purple Wine Crisp Dye Inks. I did the same with the foliage, stenciling the solid base layers with the Sweet Leaf Crisp Dye Ink and adding Just Green Crisp Dye Ink stamped details. I die cut the finished flowers using the coordinating dies included in the kit.

10122021 PK Garden Rose sentiment 1

The first project features a veritable garden of roses on my white card base. I knew that I wanted to cover the bottom half of my card front with colorful flowers, so I stenciled and stamped a few roses and foliage on the white A2 card base itself to allow very little white space on the card front once my die-cut flowers were added. I also used the sentiment stencils to blend the crisp Azurite “thanks” sentiment using blending tools.

10122021 PK Garden Rose Sentiment 2

Once I had finished stenciling and stamping the images on the base, I arranged the stamped and die cut flowers on the card front, adhering them with Instant Dimension Foam Tape. I love the combination of the layers stamped on the base as well as popped up with the foam tape; the two heights help to add so much extra detail to the card front, in my opinion.

10122021 PK Garden Rose Sentiment 3

I stamped a greeting (included in the Garden Rose Stamp Set) on a strip of white cardstock, again with Azurite Crisp Dye Ink, and popped it up above the garden of roses using a double layer of foam tape. So many different heights and layers on this card! The final touch was to add some sparkling sapphire gems to the card front for some sparkle and shine.

10122021 PK Garden Rose Stripe 1

My second card is made with the stamped die-cut “leftovers” and the super fun diagonal stencil included in the Garden Rose kit. I began by taping down my white A2 card base to the diagonal stripe stencil, and then blending some more Azurite Crisp Dye Ink to create crisp blue and white stripes. They remind me of beautiful fabric from the early 20th century! I wanted to have a complementary piece of solid blue cardstock peeking out from behind the stripes on one side, so I swiped the Azurite Crisp Dye Ink along the edge of a second piece of white cardstock. I trimmed one side down the striped panel slightly, and then adhered it over the edge of the solid blue panel.

10122021 PK Garden Rose Stripe 2

I stamped another greeting on a strip of white cardstock, and then created a little cluster with the leftover rose and foliage around the sentiment strip. I adhered them all with some more foam tape, and then added a few sparkly gems to help draw the eye down the card front and fill in any design gaps.

Well, that's all for my projects today. Now for some fun giveaway information:

This is my second kit as part of the subscription, but I was able to get the first two kits (I was especially keen to get that first Seasonal Blooms kit!!!) when they were back in stock, and I thank Altenew for restocking both kits. I am not a real lover of roses, although I think that I’m in the minority, but I do love flowers. I thought that the diagonal lines stencil was cool but I would have liked to see more detailed coloring stencils vs the sentiment words and even the diagonal stripes as neat as they were. I struggle with coloring and so having more detailed stencils for coloring appeals to me, but likely lots of crafters have more ability here. I think that the detailed coloring stencils are extremely popular for most crafters as they find they are easily and quickly colored in a beautiful way. Emily, your work is always admired, and I’m so glad to see you here on this blog hop, I am a huge admirer of your coloring especially flowers!!!
