Build-A-Garden: Daisy Crown

Our Build-A-Garden: Daisy Crown is a versatile set for stunning floral arrangements from any angle! It includes two unique clusters with daisy crown. Delicate interlocking branches and leaves enable endless botanical creativity. Included are 20 heartfelt expressions, harmonizing flawlessly with the intricate floral motifs.

This new Build-A-Garden set is perfect for any crafty project,  but given the larger–but so detailed–size of the floral cluster, it makes it ideal for memory-keeping layouts.  For my project, the movement of the floral cluster just helps anchor the floating elements to the page.  Let's take a look at the project:

@altenew_adding floating elements in memory keeping by Nathalie DeSousaI love the combination of texture, color, and that magical peek at what is behind the page.  The idea of playing with transparent crafting supplies to add floating elements in your memory-keeping layout just adds a little bit of something else to your journaling. Let's take a closer look at how this comes together.

Adding Floating Elements in Your Memory-Keeping Layout

My starting point for bringing floating elements to memory-keeping was using contrasting and bold colors in one spread.

I colored the stamped images from the Build-A-Garden: Daisy Crown set with tones from the Sugarplums, Wood Warbler, and Forest Trail Fresh Dye Inks. These colors stand out against the white oval die cut (Nesting Ovals Die Set) and the navy embossed cardstock at the bottom of the spread.

Playing with Texture

I mixed the smooth transparent section with an embossed (Tufted Elegance 3D Embossing Folder) cardstock to make the oval die cuts look as if they are floating on the page. The raised texture of the navy cardstock helps make the oval feel as if it's floating on the page.

However, when playing with a transparent element, one has to consider what shows in the back (we don't want any tape marks or adhesives showing).

Here is where I enhanced the floating element even more, by adding a matching piece to the back side of the spread! This gave the page a clean look, while adding that impact we are looking for.

The Magic of Transparent Backgrounds

Even though I could have created this layout without the transparent background, having that smooth, see-through surface helped create a clean look for the page. Plus, it gave me a way to anchor the floating elements to the spread.  What's important is to try and camouflage the back, or the opposite side of the page.

I carefully matched up the design on the opposite side to cover the back of the original floral cluster.  Since there is so much detail in the Build-A-Garden: Daisy Crown, it was best to be strategic about where to place the adhesive.  This also still showed a bit of the back of the original die cut, which acted as a clean shadow for the design here.
