A Fun Idea on Adding A Rainbow To Memory Keeping Layouts + Video Tutorial!

by nathalie

Hello Crafty Friends!

It's Nathalie here to share a fun idea  on adding a rainbow to memory keeping layouts featuring the Altenew Gradient Cardstock.   I love all the possibilities that Altenew offers with their Gradient Cardstock and Glitter Cardstock.  It is one of my favorite things to use.

However, after using for other projects I am always left with smaller pieces of it that I always keep for a later project.  Well, today is the day! I am going to show you a fun way to create a rainbow with them.  Let's take a look at at the project.

Now, here is a new way to use all those beautiful shades (and pieces) of Gradient cardstock in a fun rainbow formation for your memory keeping layouts.

1. Create a background

For this new idea on adding a rainbow to memory keeping layouts, I started by creating the circle cut outs using the Halftone Circles Nesting Die Set.  I set the circle dies so that they vary in size from large to small as they go down the page. Three is always a magical number to use for design, so that means fitting three circle die cuts in my 6×8 layout.

2. Add a Rainbow

I love seeing a rainbow color formation on projects.  So, I decided to create my rainbow by fanning out paper strips behind the open spaces of the circles. I simply drew a intersecting point on the circumference of the circle, and made sure all my paper strips started at that spot.

I followed the color transition through the circles, yellow to pink in the large circle, pink to purple in the middle circle, finishing with blue to green in the smallest circle. Once I added all my paper strips, I backed the page with another pieces of white cardstock.

3.  Add extra interest

I used the small spaces left besides the paper strips fans to add stamped sentiments.  I used Obisidian Pigment Ink along with the Billowing Peonies and Mini Delight Vinyl Style for the sentiments.  Then to just complete the look of the page and a bit of texture and dimension, I added Enamel Dots to each of the circles.  These help to emphasize the rainbow look and the movement of the rainbow on the page.  I have created a video on how I created my page.  You can watch it here or in HD in the Altenew YouTube channel.

I hope you enjoyed the video, this is such a fun and great way for adding a rainbow to your memory keeping layouts and other projects.
