Add That Sense of Movement to Your Card Designs (3 Key Elements!)

by Virginia Lu

Hello friends! It's Virginia here. Today, I am sharing a card design with a subtle movement!

Generally, non-interactive cards are mostly flat with some dimensions. Sometimes, it's fun to add that sense of movement to your card design. The receiver would feel the sense of motion and you – as the card designer – will have a ton of fun. Let's move along, shall we?

I am using Decorative Swirls Die Set and Meadows Reflections Stamp and Die Bundle to illustrate the example. To evoke a sense of movement, I have applied three key elements to my design.

How to Add Movement to Your Card Design

How to Add Movement to Your Card Design

1. Use Dies/Stamps That Simulate Movement

The Decorative Swirls Die Set has some gorgeous flourish designs and they show off some movement splendidly.  I stamped a sentiment from Bold Sentiments in Lagoon and Sunray over the dies. Not only does this provide the pops of colors, but you've also got the sentiment part covered. How to Add Movement to Your Card Design2. Find Objects that Move

I stamped the background with Meadows Reflections Stamp and Die Bundle. This set is absolutely dreamy. With the 3 fluttering butterflies in this set, you can easily create a sense of movement in your card design. I stamped the meadows in Mountain Mist and the butterflies in Canyon Clay and Vineyard Berry).  For the butterflies, I inked up the paper in Canyon Clay and Sunray. I then stamped the butterflies in Obsidian Pigment Ink and die cut them. How to Add Movement to Your Card Design3. Add Splatter/Embellishments

Let's not forget the splattering effect. I simply covered the middle section with a piece of scratch paper and splattered away with Lagoon Metallic Shimmer Ink Spray. It's amazing what those little droplets can do! If you do not care to splatter, you can use enamel dots (Sea Shore Enamel Dots) or sequins.
