Pigment Ink Techniques

Hi there Altenew friends, it's Jaycee. Today, we’re exploring five different ways to use the Altenew Cloud White Pigment Ink. This water-based pigment ink is a versatile mixed media tool that can be used for a variety of techniques. Let’s dive in!

Pigment Ink Stenciling

One of the easiest ways to use the Cloud White Pigment Ink is for stenciling. For this project, I used the October 2023 Blushing Magnolias Build-A-Garden set and the coordinating layering floral stencil set. I added Cloud White ink to the tip of the magnolia bud and then used Puffy Heart Fresh Dye Ink and a number 5 Detail Blending Brush to add depth to the base of the magnolia bud. I repeated this process on a larger scale on the magnolia petals.

Ink Marbling

To create a dreamy white haze on your card panel, try ink marbling with the Cloud White Pigment Ink. I used the Mix and Match Frames Die Set to create a raised panel and then used the Sticky Mat Grid from the Stampwheel to create some ink marbling. By suspending the pigment ink with a little bit of water, we were able to create a wonderful vintage feel and add interest to the background of our card.

Edge Distressing

For a faded vignette edge, try distressing the edges of your deckled panel by rubbing the ink to the ends of the panel. This technique creates a beautiful color faded palette and adds a wintry feel to your card.

Letter Press Texture

The Luxurious Motifs 3D Embossing Folder is perfect for adding letter press texture to your card. After embossing an A2 panel of kraft cardstock, I used the Cloud White Pigment Ink Pad to capture the high points of the embossed panel. This technique really elevates a simple background with some interesting texture.

Direct to Ink Coloring

Finally, you can use the Cloud White Pigment Ink for direct to ink coloring. For this project, I used the Craft-A-Flower: Rhododendron layering die set and created beautiful purple blooms by adding gradients and depth to the petals with the coordinating Rose Petal Fresh Dye Inks. I then added the characteristic tomentum found on Rhododendron leaves with Cloud White by pressing the gradient cardstock leaves to the ink pad.

I hope these five techniques inspire you to use the Altenew Cloud White Pigment Ink in new and creative ways. Have fun experimenting!
