Get Inspired and Win Prizes! September 2020 Inspiration Challenge: Butterfly Garden

Hello there, everyone! Happy Friday! Lydia here, and this month I will be hosting the Inspiration Challenge. This photo was taken last year on a trip to the butterfly house in our local zoo. I hope you find the photo and colors inspiring!

As you can see, I took inspiration from both the colors and the flower and butterfly in the photo.

I started by stamping my elements first. For the flower, I chose to use the Build-A-Flower: Japanese Mum Layering Stamp & Die Set as I thought it very nearly matched the bloom in the photo. I stamped the flower using Pink Pearl, Coral Bliss, and Heart Beat Crisp Dye Inks. Now for the leaves, I didn't quite have a green that matched, so I created my own by layering a few inks.

So, for the base layer of the leaves, I stamped it with Morning Frost Crisp Dye Ink. Then, I added 2 layers of Mountain Mist Crisp Dye Ink and then added another layer of Morning Frost. This gave me a color that was pretty close to the green in the photo, only a little lighter. Then, for the second layer of the leaf, I stamped it first with Evening Gray Crisp Dye Ink and then a layer with Volcano Lake Crisp Dye Ink, and I have to say this is nearly an exact match for that gorgeous green!

The butterfly is from Dream Big Stamp Set, this was stamped using Obsidian, Mountain Mist and Volcano Lake Inks. The sentiment is again from Dream Big Stamp Set and was heat embossed using Pure White Crisp Embossing Powder onto Jet Black Cardstock.

I wanted to add a little added texture to the background so I used some Embossing Paste through Sketched Lines Stencil. A little Jet Black Ink Spray and a strip of patterned paper finished the look.
