Hi Altenew friends, it's Jaycee! Stencils are great crafting tools for mediums aside from ink – that's what your stamps are for. With stencils, you can add so much more texture and dimension to your cards!
Welcome to Creativity Unlocked, where we highlight a new product from this month’s new collection!

Modern and Abstract Ensemble
Inspired by Ancient Japanese decor that focused on the use of natural materials, combined with the minimalist beauty of Scandinavian designs, the Modern & Abstract ensemble incorporates the beauty of both styles with a unique modern twist!
Below is my latest video featuring three techniques that go beyond your normal card backgrounds.
This card features products from the Modern & Abstract Ensemble. Below are the contents of this bundle:
- Abstract Patterns Builder Stencil Set (3 in 1)
- Everyday Sentiments Hot Foil Plate Set
- Modern Rainbow Border Hot Foil Plate
- Leaf Essentials Die Set
- Wicker Texture 3D Embossing Folder
Stencil Embossing Technique

If you can emboss steel dies with your die cutting machine, then you can use stencils to emboss as well. I prefer this method of embossing over the traditional embossing folder when I want a very subtle texture on a background. I paired this background with a slight gradient to make sure my shiny focal elements take center stage on my card.
2-For-1 Inlay Arches

If you are going to do the work to make a background, then make the background work for you. I made one background with the Abstract Patterns Builder Stencil Set and turned it into two cards. I used the positive and negative pieces of the Archways Die Set to create this modern and sentiment-less card.
Clouds and Rainbows – A Modern Take

Another variation you can try with the previous card is to incorporate even more texture into a modern card! Stencils work great with your embossing paste to create subtle height and texture to a card.
You can also use hot foiling to add even more beautiful texture. The Modern & Abstract Ensemble features two hot foil plate sets, which creates an additional element of texture on these cards.

How gorgeous is Terri's color palette in this card? The funky shapes and colors in her card remind us of the energetic 70's vibes! Her use of the sentiments from the Vertical Greetings set is the perfect finishing touch!
Caly's card features a stunning combination of blues and greens that cover its surface. The ink-blended hues overlap effortlessly, creating a unique sense of movement and flow across her design!
We don't know what we love more in Maryam's card – the fun shaker window with sequins, the embossed “Hugs” sentiment, or the background. We can't choose! All the elements on Maryam's card make it the perfect festive card to send to someone to lift their spirits and brighten their day.
