No Foil, No Problem

Hi there Altenew friends, it's Jaycee for my second ‘Perfect Pairing' in September 2021! Metallic elements on paper crafting projects are a running theme and trend year after year. There are many new gadgets and ways to add shine to your cards. We can use items that may already exist in your Altenew crafty stash and make beautiful cards that will surely grab your recipient's attention.

Matisse-type Spotlight

For my first card I borrowed inspiration from two sources. One of them being the collage color blocking of Matisse. The other source was the Byzantine gilding of religious figures. I used this metallic spotlight as my sunset for my bird on a branch.

Textural Geode

I was lost in thought while shaking one of my vials of Altenew sequins. The texture of the sequins reminded me of geodes–the crystal lined cavity of some rocks. I thought of ways to incorporate this rock formation onto a card front. After a few drafts and mental sketching, I came up with the embossed crystalline border in this card.

Wax Sealing the Deal

I have seen foil additions of letter press and I have always loved the refined and polished appearance of foil debossing. To maintain that inspiration, I used wax as my focal element. I played with the idea of using wax as my sentiment to support the loose watercolor images. Then I added shiny pieces of thread, sequins, and metallic watercolor.
