Hi Altenew friends, it's Jaycee! I started card making around the holidays in 2015. If you're looking for ways to create into the new year, I have three essential card making techniques that every card maker should know. These are practical applications of techniques more advanced crafters may already know so that you can keep crafting for every occasion.
Card Making Color Triad
My card making philosophy has always been about using your crafting time wisely. Why spend so much time on a background if you're not going to see it? In order to make this very simple color triad background I relied on masking. Stenciling and ink blending go hand in hand, so by using both techniques we can create a simple background to oppose the simple grey retro bicycle focal image.

Embossing Folder Essential
Did you know at Altenew Academy I have a class all about Embossing Folders? In Embossing Folders: Basics to Brilliance, I cover everything you need to know about embossing folders. The techniques even transcend paper and into your home. Letterpress or relief printing is an essential card making technique. If you have an embossing folder you have to know about applying ink to them for outstanding backgrounds.

Loose Watercolor Secrets
I love loose watercolor florals but I struggle with the balance between free-flowing and muddy colors. Heat embossing resist is an essential crafting technique. This card making technique is perfect for loose watercolor florals. I shared an easy way to color the open spaces of petals and leaves to create loose shapes that do not overtake the retro bicycle focal image.
I hope you try out these 3 techniques in your cards. Thank you so much for watching my Perfect Pairings with Jaycee episode on the Altenew YouTube Channel!
