Hot foil plates are a popular way to add stunning metallic shine to your paper crafting projects. While I love making beautiful floral cards with my Altenew stash, there are unique ways for memory keepers/scrapbookers to add so much shimmer to layouts.
1. Metallic Photo Embellishments
Did you know you can add metallic shine directly onto photos? Just treat your glossy photo paper like any regular cardstock. Just ensure that you trim the heat transfer foil so that there are no stray pieces in the photo.
I used the Sweet Sentiments Hot Foil Plate Set to directly add my metallic title to my photos. I thought adding the scrapbook layout title directly to the photo would help preserve the focal point of my cat Kookie without blocking too much of her cute little face.

2. Metallic Foil Watercolor Resist
This is the same technique as the popular “Embossing Powder Resist.” In embossing powder resist, the plastic hydrophobic nature of the embossing powder resists water. Therefore, watercolor pools and preserves the outline of the stamps.
This is true with outline metallic foil images. I used Eucalyptus Wreath Hot Foil Plate to create my foiled outline. Then, I used Autumn Harvest Watercolor Brush Markers to color in the eucalyptus leaves. There was no need to carefully color the small images since the metallic foil resists watercolor.

3. Metallic Gilding on Cut Cardstock
Did you keep your scraps from the Eucalyptus Wreath? Don't let the negative space go to waste. Heat transfer foil also adheres to a variety of adhesives. In the scrapbook layout, I used liquid glue that dries tacky.
Onto Creative Cutouts: Nested Wreath, I applied various concentrations of liquid glue. I waited for the glue to become tacky and pressed the foil that I used for Eucalyptus Wreath onto those areas. I got a random and vintage look to the otherwise solid white cut cardstock.
I used these foiled elements to embellish the eucalyptus frame. This helped break up the repetition in the image and add even more shine to the entire scrapbook layout.
