Hey there, Altenew friends, it's Jaycee! I'm thrilled to share my latest card inspiration with you. After a month-long hiatus, I'm back with a fresh perspective on how to combine paper crafting with non-craft related items to create unique and beautiful cards.

Handmade Card Inspiration from Columbus, Ohio

In this video, I'm using the Build-A-Garden: Branching Roses Set from Altenew to create a stunning floral scene. But what sets this handmade card apart is the unconventional item I used as a background – a rose catalog!

The card inspiration came from my recent experience at Simon Says Create in Columbus, Ohio. I had the opportunity to meet fellow crafters and share techniques, cards, and sources of inspiration. It was amazing to see how many of you use non-craft related items to make your cards. In the end, I was most driven the by the community and I was inspired to try something new.

Build-A-Garden: Branching Roses

The Branching Roses set is a beautiful addition to any paper crafting collection. With its intricate details and delicate foliage, it's perfect for creating realistic floral scenes. To add some extra texture and interest, I used layering stencils to create gradients and shades of green with the Fresh Dye Ink Bundle from April 2024.

But the real magic happens when you combine Branching Roses with an unconventional item. In this case, I used a panel from a rose catalog to create a beautiful background. The color palette is nearly identical to the April 2024 Fresh Dye Ink release, which made it easy to pair the two elements together.

Sometimes the easiest way to use your inspiration is to eliminate so much of the ‘work.' I picked a stamp set and arrangement that was perfect alone or for easy arrangement. The layering stencils making coloring simple to do too!

Perfectly Paired Flowers

This card inspiration came from mixing the feeling of decoupage with a realistic photograph. It feels very handmade paired with perfect compositions from the photo.

To add some dimension and visual interest, I used layers of foam tape to raise the “Branching Roses” image toward the viewer. I also added some Pure White Ink Spray Splatter to anchor the layers together and create a sense of depth.

The finishing touch is the sentiment, which I stamped from Hydrangea Fresh Dye Ink using the add-on die set. To add some extra embellishment, I used Shades of Purple Enamel Dots–there is an Enchanted Garden Enamel Dot set that coordinates beautifully with the Fresh Dye Ink Set.

The color inspiration was plain to see from the rose catalog image. I think this was a fun way to repurpose what you have and pair it with something new.
